How many markets have reggaeton stations?

I am really surprised by the sparse postings on this board.

Could it be that reggaeton isn't in as many markets as I thought, or is just not doing well?

How many markets have reggaeton stations?

I know I've heard rumors for a while that CC's Miami regg station, WMGE "Mega 94.9" will flip.

But they are probably just unfounded rumors.

Any ideas on this?

954, Many people in Houston have wished for the demise of "Mega 101" since it's inception. I guess that is what happens when a new format is placed on a heritage station that has played one format for 30+ years. Mega 101 has been progressively rising in both 12+ and overall billing. What everyone in SE Texas thought would surely fail, has surprised most critics. It looks as though it is here to stay. While I haven't personally listened to much of the station since it flipped in 11/04 you have to give credit where it's due. Clear Channel knew that the heritage rocker was dead in the water, and this was a very shrewd and well thought out plan to restore KLOL back to it's past glory on top of the Arbitrons.

It was the same thing here. Heritage station WZTA "Zeta 94.9" had been around several decades, with different names: Zeta 4, I-95, etc. I don't know about billings, because I write about radio from the listener's POV.

A lot of people don't like what CC has done to radio, and I'm one of them.

One thing that the Mami market has that I'd bet you also have in Houston is a lot of Spanish stations. So there's some resentment about losing a rock station to a foreign language station.

I didn't listen to Zeta and I don't listen to Mega, so it's no net change to me.

96.1 in Memphis has flipped recently and is playing no raggaeton now

now playing ballads and softer sounding music

Reggaeton (actually, LAtin Urban as there are not 100% reggaeton stations outside Puerto Rico) Markets

Santa Barbara
Salinas Monterey
Houston
Phoenix
Albuquerque (mostly hip hop)
San Francisco
Fresno
Bakersfield
Dallas
Chicago
NY
Miami

Strong reggaeton flavor (30% at least)
Orlando, Tampa, DC, Philly, NY, Ft Myers.

Actually, I've heard La Kalle in NYC and it seems that they lean more towards Reggeaton so they should be on that top list with the others. One of the ones that has to come off is Mega 101 in Houston. It seems nowdays that everytime i tune in, they play more salsa and merengue. Their playlist is now more like 50% Reggeaton, 20% Hip-Hop (or so), 20% Salsa, and 10% Merengue. This station is not sounding like it used to when it first started. But I've guess it has worked out.

KLOL is the most successful of all of them.

And I put NY on both lists... full Latin Urban and the mix. WCAA and WSKQ.

No KXOL? Isn't 96.3 still a Latin Urban despite them adding English Hip Hop?

LA is on the list. KLOL is by far the most successful of these stations, though.

All the US reggaetón stations have either a dose of hi ho or Latin Pop, depending on the market. The only pure reggaetón station is WODA in Puerto Rico, and it is off by nearly 55% in ratings since the end of last year.
