How many misconceptions about the DTV transition can you think of?

I know it's an impossibility, but shouldn't the FCC be looking into some of this false advertising?

As far as the FCC is probably concerned, the First Amendment allows false information to be broadcast. Hey, they pulled that one with Monsanto and WTVT in Tampa.

I think false advertising would fall under the FTC (Federal Trade Commission), not the FCC.

The ads are not going to say anything that would upset the public enough to write their Senators and Representatives BEFORE analog is turned off. Once it's off, it's too late. Before it's turned off they could extend the deadline.

That's why the ads are somewhat misleading

From the Dick Van Dyke Show:

Laura) You lied to me
Rob) No I didn't, you jumped to a conclusion
Laura) You let me to jump to that conclusion
Rob) No, I may have lead you to the edge but jumping was your own idea

:)

Sorry to bump this thread, but I've created a proposed sample DTV transition ad that I hope would solve some of these problems. Thoughts?

Something I've learned (the hard way):

When talking with non-technical personnel, NEVER EVER EVER mention channel mapping. There's no way they'll understand it.

(heck, most Extra Class hams I know - and even more than a few TV engineers - don't understand virtual channels.)
