How many newer songs?

Dial Global has its own topic on this board, so if you want to comment on the specific format, please go there.

But I had an interesting experience the other night.

Michael Buble was followed by Ray Charles, then Norah Jones and Rod Stewart.

Now except for Ray, those songs woould have to be from this decade. One or two older Rod Stewart songs in the format are AC, but this was a standard.

Interestingly, this morning, during the hour and a half that I listened, I never heard anything "new". I did hear Henry Mancini, Andy Williams, Perry Como, Frank Sinatra, and Steve Lawrence. And a female who wasn't identified. Regardless of who you are, these were all standards. There was also "Lowdown" by Boz Scaggs, so Harrison Ford is on the loose and Tommy Lee Jones not far behind.

I like Boz Skaggs, but I don't think he belongs on a Standards station. What were you listening to?
Dial Global.

I like the flute, violins and the bass on that song, but the guitar and the vocals seem out of place.

"Lowdown" is a good song but sort of marginal for a standards format. "Look What You've Done To Me" (from the Urban Cowboy soundtrack) is a better fit. Scaggs also wrote "We're All Alone" which was a huge hit for Rita Coolidge and is one of those softer '70s songs that standards stations have picked up on.
