How many of you have had hearing loss do to years loud headphones?

Louie... ???

I'm getting the feeling that you are a bit tone deaf in the listening department. So you would have cause for your query. But how's your eyesight?

I'm reading these posts and for the most part, I think that there's general concern and even those that might take it up with their bosses. I think your outrage is past its prime. It's time to sit back and let others share the knowledge that you have insightfully posted.

They get it, and most agree with it to some degree. This last post almost cues me to think that you want everyone to be as outraged as you are and start some sort of movement or something. I gotta tell you I don't think that's going to happen. But people will share their concerns (or even lack thereof which may also prove to benefit your cause) now that you brought it to their attention. I'm sure of it.

LOL, and looking back at the posts a little more thoroughly, I realize you've been instigated to do so. General awareness is key. But how far are you willing to take it? Are you going to quit if it isn't resolved? If you're union, are you going to strike? Are you going to shaving cream the management's cars? What are you willing to do to further your cause, and will it benefit or hinder it?

I have already done the shaving cream thing years ago… And yes there is a touch of left over animosity toward the “sweater vest wearing weenies” I have referred to… But I truly want to help these young broadcasters to not loose part of their hearing. Even though I am a 48 year-old man-child I still have taken my place as an elder. And as an elder it is my obligation to offer my overview of retrospect.

And yes I think the on air folks deserve a hell of a lot more respect then they seem to be getting. You are an insightful person… But a movement? No I’m not qualified to lead a movement. But I am happy to promote the golden rule.

I do have to admit… I have a couple of decent opportunities to go back into radio and I have other opportunities as well. As I think and rethink which direction to go in… And as I read these post… A lot of memories come flooding back into my head. I have seen a lot of talent (not only myself) beaten down. But I don’t want to be the Al Sharpton of mistreated DJs. Hey if I raise the question, then who knows perhaps I can help nudge things in the right direction.

I cant help it I am a passionate guy and perhaps a bit too strident… But my heart is in the right place.

Thank you for your thoughtful post.

Louie

:) :-[

Maybe I've just been going through trials and tribulations and such now where I sometimes wonder if I'm being too harsh on folks, but I'm so glad you were able to see the message I was trying to convey.

Yes I too have been one of those folks who have sucked up some hard blows (and I wonder if there is a broadcaster out there who hasn't been trodden upon). The biggest was trying to be a leader in the community by enlisting in the national guard, only to have my hours cut in half after I got back from basic training. Rendering me without enough money to eat and continue living in the shared living environment (mutual kitchen, bathroom and living room area in a college town) I was renting. :( I joined active duty and while the outcome has been significantly rewarding, I can't help but think what might have happened if I hadn't that turn of events. Well, the station still would have been sold, and I very well may have been out of a job. And definitely would have had to relocate. So maybe it was for the best, but still, kind of a rude reintegration.

I could share many of what I consider horror stories, but will refrain at this time.

And I truly believe your heart is in the right place, thank you for caring. 8)

Thank you for your service to our country… The folks who “step up” deserve everyone’s deepest respect. What happened to you “just ain’t right”. And as far as your horror stories let them fly bro… In fact start a new string. Boilers have vents for a reason… So vent.

Look, I have this hope that some owners and high level executives may be reading this stuff. Perhaps we could get them to rethink some of their policies with regard to personnel issues. Maybe they will hire a new type of leader. (like me or you) I think we all want to improve the state of radio - exposing its weaknesses is a good place to start.

When you are in a nurturing environment you do better work… The good for the business, The advertiser, and the listener.

Jeez I got to get off this thing ... I have a life to retool
