How many people here have worked in radio

Hey guys,

I spent fourteen years working at KYLD in San Francisco, where I served as a member of the Doghouse Morning Show, a weekend on-air personality and also a street promotions team member.

In addition to my on-air work and promotions duties, I performed stand-up comedy at a couple of the “Doghouse Comedy Jam” events and also performed the national anthem at a “Battle Of The Big Boys” boxing event in front of thousands of people. I also have experience hosting and co-producing a music video show for the largest local cable TV system in the San Francisco Bay Area.

I will be returning to Chabot College in Hayward beginning with the 2010 Fall Semester where I will be taking radio broadcasting classes. I previously attended Chabot from September 1991-May 1999, where I majored in television and radio broadcasting. I recently attended Ohlone College in Fremont, where I successfully earned fast-track certificates in radio on-air talent and also in radio studio operations. I also learned basic production skills.

That's my radio background...what's your's?

Isn't that funny - never occurred to me to wonder. But now that you bring it up, sure, maybe some non-radio folks hang out here.

I've been in the biz for about 20 years.

Kinda. If you call that "working". I guess you can say I played in a radio station for money.
The only work was the middle-of-night phone calls.

I was in radio exclusively for 10 years straight (1971-1981), TV alone for 12 (1981-1993)then radio and TV simultaneously for another 11 (1993-2004) off and on. For the past six years, it's been purely TV.

The closest I ever got to being a Bay Area radio person was PD/air talent at KUKI, Ukiah, but for 20 years (1965-1985), I lived within at least nighttime earshot of Bay Area radio.

Ten years in radio, 3 years in TV over a period of 30 years, but I started young. TV had the wilder stories but overall wasn't as fun. I've done most radio jobs including sales, DJ, talkshow hosting, call screening, interviews, news, engineering assistant, and plenty of board opping and production. I consider myself equally talent, admin, and engineering.

I was an in-studio guest on KGO twice in the late 80s. Does that count?

I'm just a life-long radio and media fan, and like to express my opinions, even when it annoys others. ;D Also, starting as a senior in high school (40 years ago), I've known a lot of people who have worked in radio and TV- mostly in LA, but also a few here in the Bay Area - not sure why - it just turned out that way.

I started in radio in the mid-70s...for a total of 25 years in the biz. All commercial, all classes and both frequencies.

I worked in radio & TV early on, then went to work for a broadcast products manufacturer (Harris). Since then I've done mostly networking and server configuration for a career. But I love radio & RF in general, and volunteer for public radio and/or work on a few projects whenever they come up.

39 years in "the biz" with stops in 7 top-25 markets as jock and/or PD and a 5 year detour into label promotion.

Worked promotions @ KXXX X-100. Did a directing gig for KPIX ( Sunday Night News ) This was all back in the late '80's. Now freelance producing, directing.

20+ in the biz. I've thought about doing other things...but, that would require shaving, thought behind dress...and no laughter.

City college radio (1972-73)....KROW, Dallas, OR (1973-74)...KSEN, Shelby,MT (1974-75)...KORK, Las Vegas,NV (1975-79), KDWN; KENO-FM; KNUU, Las Vegas (1979-81)...All "personality" radio, except KNUU which was all-news...Always said when radio stopped being fun, I'd get out because I could always make more money doing something else...Stopped being fun in Las Vegas...You're on the upward climb, from the "minors" to the "majors" and never stopped to realize if you're happy and enjoying yourself in a small market ( Montana ), you're much better off being a "big fish in a small pond"..But you're young, cocky, head-strong and "on your way to the top."...The saying is true, "Youth is wasted on the young."...If you're happy and successful, plant those roots and enjoy...Life's too short....got into the reprographic field for 25 years and now have been a mailman for 10 and I couldn't be happier...I miss the way radio was...Could no way be a part of what radio/music has become...will "oldies" stations ever be able to play anything after about 1990?...What after that says, "Ahh, I remember those days"...rap?...hip-hop?...lady gaga?...........yikes!!

And it took me awhile to realize that when you reach the top you're still only a DJ. Big deal. You do the time and temp and read liners others have written and try to come up with clever things to say in order to keep the spot clusters separated.

Don't short change Lady Gaga. People are all upset that she shot a video playing John Lennon's white piano. But she's 10 times the pianist Lennon ever was! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SagYW3-KNyc
