How many stations now have Aux sites?

About how many stations (that are on the main master antenna (9) ) acually have auxiliary sites now? Just wondering becuase most of the ones that I use to could get arnt comming in very good any more since they are working on the tower (I gues?) I know I think Chuck said KHJZ and maybe 93Q country is downtown now over the weekends, I know Saturday night Mix died out completly for about 15 or so minuets when I was listening.
______________

Would be nice if someone in the know could update us on the Senior Road project. Something is definitely going on, as the signal characteristics seem to be different on many of those nine stations.

Ask and ye shall receive ;)
The new antenna and combiner are being installed soon...an ERI dual input master antenna (model COG3-78T if I recall correctly) and a dual feed combiner (analog going one way, digital the other)...with new switches installed so half the antenna can be used if needed...The old Harris CBR is slowly being removed and will take a week or more. New inner conductors in the 6 inch rigid lines were installed last year and some of the outer sections were changed 10 years ago in its first major overhaul but most of the outer sections are still original from the construction of the tower back in the 80s. All 9 stations will have their digitals online by the end of December (probably sooner).

Thanks for the info. Besides the antenna/combiner/feedlines, are there new transmitters involved? Or retrofit of existing units? Apparently KLDE replaced everything when they went IBOC late last year.

Re: Senior Road update??

Thanks for the update cw, I hope the digital doesnt realy effect to much in the way of dx'n I think when KASE 101 in Austin is now in digital, but I dont realy think it made much diffrents in power.
______________

With the dual feed combiner, all they have to do is add a HD transmitter..with TPOs at 1% of the analog, that means a 35KW output analog will be running a 350w solid state digital...easy to put in the existing rooms. The analogs will not have to be changed.

As for KLDE, they were running combined analog transmitters to achieve their TPO (Transmitter Power Out) and correct ERP. They likely went with low level combining where that does involve changing the entire transmitter out (the Power Amplifier section which is normally Class C in FM analog mode cannot handle a digital/AM signal so a linear type amplifier must be installed which can pass both the analog and digital together. Low level combining allows the same antenna and feedline to carry the combined signals...high level combining can take place at the transmitters (which costs a lot of power and requires the analog xmtr to do 11% MORE than it currently runs...and dumps a lot of power into a dummy load!) or can take place at the antenna which SR Road is doing...
this requires a second run of feedline up the tower to handle the digital signal (which again is 1% of the analog signal so the line for the digital will be much smaller than the analog line) and combining takes place at the antenna
(actually in the air as the analog is right hand circular and the digital will be left hand circular)

Remember in the hybrid mode, the digital signal is on each side of the analog carrier...so the two actually do not cover each other...at the rcvr, the radio must look at the edge of the actual channel for the digital information...

^^^^^^^^^^^-----------------------^^^^^^^^^^^^
____digital__________analog_______digital

<---------normal FM 200kHz channel------------------>

Hope that doesnt wrap....
