How Many Terrestrial Radio People Subscribe to SiriusXM?

I know there can't be many simply because there aren't that many left in terrestrial radio in the first place. Among those that are left in terrestrial radio, I wonder what percentage of them subscribe to SiriusXM. I figure that a large percentage of that dwindling group subscribe, and that's a damning statement about terrestrial radio.

I know that several of the Sports talk radio hosts do because I've heard a few of them discussing rumors they've heard on the NFL Channel on SiriusXM. One of two them even admitted to listening to SiriusXM away from work.

I would say at least 19,500 subscribers in Memphis. The reason I say this is because I received an EMail about the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert and that 19,500 subsciibers in Memphis are eligible to enter a contest to win a pair of tickets from Sirius.

I used to and often re-think about it but only when i'm on a long road trip in the middle of nowhere. So far my 32gb flash drive full of music has kept me occupied and in some cases just streaming with my iPhone over blue-tooth if 3g is reliable.

The audio quality can be an issue. But I noticed it as far worse when I was using one of those stand-alone satellite radios with the FM modulator. The audio is much better with the built-in radios in my cars.

Note, too, that some channels are narrower than others. The talk-only channels are much narrower than the music channels; the traffic channels are VERY noticeable.

It does sound like crap. That and the fact the playlists have become repetitive and narrow coupled with removing several channels to create all Bruce Springsteen radio etc are the reasons I had to let them go.

I was listening in a Cadillac with a very nice built in radio. The audio I was listening to was some of the music channels. The guy that owned the car is a broadcast engineer that I dont date anymore (im trying to get out of radio completely LOL), so unless it has drastically improved in the past year, the audio is crap as compared to FM.

You dated an engineer? You poor girl.

I know a lot of people use to have the same attitude about cable tv, that they refuse to PAY to watch television and look where most of them are now!!

In most of johnnyu's posts he claims to not watch or listen to whatever the subject is, which brings up the question: Why even post then??? ??? ::)

I don't currently have satellite radio (trying to save some money) but have in the past. One of these days I will go back to it. The truth is I want to listen to local radio but I just can't find a station these days that can keep my attention for very long.

Radio person or not, the audio quality just doesnt match that of FM radio. Has a strange character to it that I can hear.

It's a low-bitrate broadcast... audio quality is not that great, much like if you were listening to an MP3 encoded at 64kbps instead of the CD-quality 320kbps. (Most people can start to hear the difference as the bitrate quality gets below 128kbps, audiophiles claim to hear the difference when they get as low as 192kbps.) That results in digital artifacts and other audio issues, and it's more obvious the better the speakers/audio system are. Sirius also tends to compress the bandwidth on the talk channels to maximize the available bandwidth for the music channels.
