How many women's talk radio stations are there?

WXNC(AM) Monroe/Charlotte NC tried it a few months back, but it didn't fly. I'm not sure why, other than that the signal wasn't so great.

WLNK(FM)/Charlotte does contemporary talk most of the day, and I think it skews slightly female.

A good place to start your list might be the website for the "Chick Chat" show.

Take Five on XM is an attempt at the format, but they don't really have the same issues of having to get ratings in order to keep a channel. KCAF in Dallas died a few years ago; IIRC, it lasted all of three days in 2001. It was most recently "Texas Talk Radio" with a mish-mash of sports and talk, and Dave Schum, the owner on the link you provided, has been ousted as the station was sold to settle his bankruptcy.

The Link is technically considered an AC station. Most of their shows do play at least some music and they're all music on overnights and weekends. Both talk and AC stations have picked up the shows originating from there (Bob and Sheri, Pam Stone, etc.). I wonder if the new owners at Lincoln Financial will keep the format going.

KMSR-Dallas (the former KCAF) is currently running SNR, at least on overnights.

If they can't get ratings why don't they try lib talk. Dallas is one of three top 10 markets without an Lib Talk station

KXEB (910) is the Dallas affiliate for AAR.

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/finder?call=kxeb&is_unl=Y&is_lic=Y&is_cp=Y&sr=Y&s=C&sid=

Though I highly doubt the owners of KXEB really do anything in regard to promotion (like all the other AAR affiliates in Texas), so most people probably don't realize it even exists.<P ID="signature">______________

I don't think there is a Cafe 990 AM in Dallas. All of the phone numbers on the website are disconnected and there is no KCAF 990 listed on Radio-Locator. There is a KFCD 990 AM station in Dallas that appears to feature local hosts. For some reason, Michael Reagan is on there now-- 5:15 pm. (When is the last time his name came up on this board.) Strangely their website http://www.990texastalkradio.com/index.php doesn't list the Michael Reagan Show and shows two African American talk shows. The plot thickens.

That's what happens when you go bankrupt and have your programming pulled. I'm surprised RA is still clearing Reagan (who used to be on overnights). I thought they were running that godawful USA Radio Talk service.

So there's only one women's talk radio station in the U.S.?

So there's only one (FM 107 in MN) women's talk radio station in the U.S.? I would have thought there would be more.

Also, didn't one of the satellite radio services have a women's talk radio channel? If so, anyone what happened to it?

Anyone have "hypothesizes" on why there aren't more women's talk radio stations?

And the new Bonneville femtalker in Salt Lake.

Okay, so I count four women's talk radio stations:

Okay, so I count four women's talk radio stations so far:

Non-Satellite
1.) FM 107 (in MN).
2.) Bonneville in Salt Lake (link??).

Satellite
3.) Take Five (XM Satellite).
4.) Martha Stewart Living Radio (Sirius Satellite).

Any others?

Seems like I'm missing one. Although, as we've discussed, ABC seems to think they can lure more with expanded, better programming. http://www.mediaweek.com/mw/news/recent_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001138536

<< "The most successful daytime shows on TV-Oprah and Dr. Phil-appeal to [women]. Why aren't we there?" asked John McConnell, senior vp of programming for ABC. >>

Somebody please explain the obvious here. My KQBZ stream has been running too long and I'm afraid my explanation might be along the lines of "Dump that Bitch!" Hmm.

Actually, WLNK(FM) listed with Arbitron as Talk. The format comments at the bottom of the 12+ reports note that "WLNK-FM - Evolved from Hot AC during May".

As for Lincoln National, I doubt they know the difference between AC, DC or PC. They aren't radio people. At least not yet, anyway!

So they no longer run music at all? What are they carrying nights/weekends now?

If Oprah and Dr. Phraud did radio shows, perhaps women's talk would become a viable format. But it'll never work without them or another TV crossover personality with high name recognition.

Well, it's funny really...they do talk all day, with Bob & Sheri, Pam Stone, Matt & Ramona, Etc. Those shows carry only one song, at the top of the hour, I believe.

However, they carry John Tesh in the evenings and play music overnight. What an odd combination huh? I suppose they call themselves 'talk' in the Arbitron info since that's what they do during the important hours.

So, they're basically doing what WHFS-Baltimore does, then. It's a hot talker that goes alternative on overnights to fill a format hole. Not sure if that will continue now that they're Free FM, though.

Re: Okay, so I count four women's talk radio stations:

Although they dont have liners that say so, WXCT 990 AM in Southington, Connecticut is supposedly women's talk radio, though they don't have all women's programming. They do have Debbie Nigro, Frankie Boyer, Tammy Bruce, Cullum & Silk, and Dr. Laura. The rest of the day is finacial programming and Mike Regaen. When their local show is on the air, the host who is the GM and PD calls the station "X Radio 990 - Talk Radio for the X Chromosome". All the liners are from the talk format they ran from April 2003 until May 2004 when the station was known as "Xact Radio 990 The X". The don't have a website at this time.

Re: Okay, so I count four women's talk radio stations:

I just got an email from WXCT's PD/GM. They've dropped Frankie Boyer and Cullum & Silk.
