How Moby Became "Moby"

Great story. As far as radio names go, I like the ones that are at least a little imaginative. I hate radio names like Rick Scott and Bill Stevens.

Years ago, a legendary man named Max Richmond owned WMEX in Boston and WPGC in Washington. Both stations used house names. At WMEX, the morning man was Fenway. At WPGC, the afternoon drive jock was Dean Griffith, named after DC's Griffith stadium. WPGC had Gentleman Jim Madison and Tiger Bob Raleigh.

Max Richmond was universally disliked by his employees. One of them, Jack Gale, wrote in his autobiography that Richmond had called him and said, "If you're interested in working here, I'll pay to fly you to Boston for an interview." After the interview, Gale asked for his plane fare to go home. Richmond answered, "I said I'd pay to fly you up. How you get back is your problem."
