I see their promos promoting they got the power of fox news channel and KFYI but how much does KFYI provide to Fox 10 or is it the other way around?

not much. But anyone who's had experience in news partnerships between radio and television will tell you that's how it works. Any good t.v. station/news department doesn't really need a radio station, other than to use it's name in the market. I've done these types of partnership's before and the t.v. folks just want to get there name over the radio airwaves.

KFYI: ...and this woman tells Fox 10...

If KFYI had someone who was t.v. worthy then maybe, but Fox 10 gets more exposure and free ad time for their station on radio, than they would have gotten any other way.

Besides the John Hook 420 call in, you don't really hear any of the other Fox folks on KFYI. I think I heard a reporter once on a breaking news story. But becuase KFYI has a bigger reporter pool than most AM's... they usually don't need spot coverage.

but it does beg the question. Why doesn't KFYI use Fox reporters more? Unless it's written in the partnership that they can't...

at some point, having Bruce Dunbar on, might help him after his career is over. "Just you watch..."

You're pretty spot-on with your analysis. The TV station usually gets no more than some free promo time, which appears to be the case with FOX 10 and KFYI. I think KFYI gets some TV promo time, too. Basically, it amounts to free ads for each station.

As for why KFYI doesn't use FOX 10 talent while only taking their actualities... all KFYI needs is the sound. If FOX 10 reporters were to package news stories for radio, that would be added work for them and they would rightly want added compensation. That's not gonna happen. KFYI could edit TV reports down and ask the TV reporter to tape a KFYI "lockout" that can be tacked on, but that too, would be something the TV person could ask more money for because his or her work ended up on someone else's air. I can see it making sense in a major story in which FOX 10 is on-scene and KFYI is not or somehow cannot be there, but those are few and far between. In that case, KFYI could simply join FOX 10 in progress and credit them for the live audio.
