HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TALK STATIONS TO STREAM BECK, LIMBAUGH, HANNITY, ETC.

I came across a talk station last week (a 50,000 watt "clear channel" owned by Clear Channel) that has a 3 hour local show in the morning (podcasts available), then has Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, etc. However this station does not have a live internet stream (even though there is a viable player window available to the station). I inquired to this particular host via e-mail if there was a plan for the station as well as his show to stream online. This particular host e-mailed back and said that his show could not stream without streaming Beck and Limbaugh (Hannity wasn't mentioned) and that they wanted a lot of money to have their show streamed, which is why this particular host's show is not streamed.

Which brings up the following questions: One, (approximately) do syndicated hosts such as Beck and Limbaugh charge stations to stream their show's online and the role of Clear Channel and Premier Radio Networks, a wholly owned subsidiary of Clear Channel, that syndicates Beck and Limbaugh.

I only bring this up since there are a plethora of Clear Channel owned News/Talk stations that stream online (both large and small) that stream Beck, Limbaugh, and Hannity. So why this particluar station doesn't stream is puzzling at best. I did not disclose the station nor the host out of respect for their privacy.

If the station in question is WWVA in Wheeling, WV, Clear Channel was supposed to sell the Wheeling cluster to GoodRadio.TV LLC of Boca Raton, FL in 2007, but the deal fell through. They could be still trying to sell the cluster and are not making any investments into the stations.

As for adding a stream, it probably can be done cheaply, but then again this is Cheap...uh I mean Clear Channel.

Firebird hit the station right on the head. I don't know how many stations are involved in CC's Wheeling cluster (or if any of them stream for that matter), or if they are even close to selling for that matter.

Maybe the problem is the cost of bandwidth. It's probably the biggest cost for streaming a radio show on a big station.
Ten years ago or so (or even five years ago for that matter), that may have been an issue for both stations large and small. But as technology improves and costs decrease, it is viewed (as it should be) as a selling point for the station as it increses their listener base beyond their terrestrial coverage base.

Does Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck even allow stations to stream their shows, live or in other slots?
I see a lot more of the other shows being streamed.

I usually listen via iTunes, but I know WABC and WPHT both stream everything except WPHT not streaming the Sinatra show and Phillies games.

I would say about 95% of the stations that carry Beck, Limbaugh, and Hannity are streamed, be it live or replayed at a later time slot. I am aware that WGAC in Augusta,GA and KENI 650 in Anchorage, AK does not stream Limbaugh. There may be a few more that I am not aware of.

All three are available on WPHT's (Philadelphia) online stream. I listen via AOL/CBS on Winamp. I know all three are there live. :)

The only show I know isn't streamed is the Sinatra music shows. Online they play a loop saying (paraphrase) this show is not available online. ::)

And the loop is over the most cheesy Sinatra-ripoff instrumental you will ever hear...
