Anyone know what they're asking for WYMM 1530??? The Grapevine tells me it's on the block. Not that I could figure on having that kind of money... Surely they poured some money into it, it couldn't limp along any further after Freefall Communications finished running the plant into the ground. It's a lot to keep up with.If this was your baby, what would you program it with to get a return on your investment? Best wishes for Doc and the gang there... (Does this mean Andy Johnson would have to change his dial position AGAIN? )Observing from the cheap seats,Skinny AL

Program it with real local talk shows, get a real web designer to design a real web site and start being a local talk station to compete with the only other talk station in town that runs all syndicated programming. WOKV must be making a killing. But they do not have but one local weekday program. I am surprised no one has flipped FM Talk here to compete, Jax is market 48.Observing from market 240 (maybe that is why no one has done this)Dale Griffin

I guess the four hour local morning news show doesn't count as LOCAL?They have more local staff (mainly news people) than anyone else in the market. How come that doesn't count (in your limited mind) as LOCAL?!

Progressive 1530: Air America for Jax

Slap Air America on that bad boy. How many Democrats in Duval County? Way too many to be ignored. Bonus: when the local signal shuts down at sunset, the night signal on 1530 in Air America's 1530 WCKY from Cincy. A fulltimer by default.

If 1530 from Cincy boomed in and you put on some local shows, maybe that would work. Still going local in at least AM/PM drive could make a dent with conservative talk.

You're not suggesting that they put conservative talk on it, are you? Plenty of that as it is. And (not to turn this into a political discussion) but the polls all say things are moving the other direction. To reiterate, plugging into AA would bring the stick to life--actually generate an audience. That's something 1530 has never had. Even with a daytime-only signal, Al Franken and Randi Rhodes could knock down a couple of shares in Jacksonville.

A small dent in the big conservative talker could still mean big $$$ in Jacksonville. Can AA promise that...? A lot of informatiuon available would say, possibly but probably not.

Check out Clear Channel's 620/KPOJ, Portland (OR)--at 82% of Clear Channel's own "big conservative talker" KEX. Not a perfect parallel, since both KPOJ & KEX have fulltime blowtorch signals. But CC has proved the point: Air America works. Is Jacksonville Portland? Of course not. But check that Duval margin in the famous 2000 race that went to the Supremes. There are a boatload of Dems getting more fired up by the minute. Did the NSA leave a message on your voicemail?

Check out the 2004 election, "fired up" does not equal election victories.Check out AAR ratings, "fired up" does not equal ratings. You do not have to win to make money with conservative talk, is this the same with Progressive talk?Ask your self this, how many stations have given up on AAR and how many have given up on conservative talk.Remember this is a business, not a political soapbox.
