HOW MUCH LONGER CAN JJZ EXIST

Most, if not all of the big East Coast cities Baltimore and DC recently have lost their SJ formats, NYC is no exception, how much longer will JJZ be alive, no ratings, no revenue, Real Oldies would be a better pitch on 97.5. Maybe their are so many signals and formats in this metro market that can make SJ still exist.

We need to fill the void left behind when 96.5 flipped from talk to irrelavency. The two talk stations in Philadelphia are too much alike. Not enough local content. We need a talk station that is equally balanced between conservative and liberal. The fact that it would be on FM is a plus in my book.

Irrelevant? How can you say 96.5 is irrelevant. Granted The Point (geez, i almost forgot what it was called when I typed that LOL) was a flash in the pan, but Wired is doing pretty well for Beasley. Chio beats the pants off Q102/Booker, is #1 with females in the morning, plays a decent variety of hits (if you like the format). No other format on 96.5 has been as successful as Wired. It may not be your cup of tea, but still far from irrelevant.

I'll see if I can try to steer the discussion away from "96.5" and "irrelevancy". Back to WJJZ, not sure if they can last one more book, but a while back Alan Kepler made comments alluding to big plans for WJJZ. Maybe they will be the flagship station for "Smooth AC" or something? Not sure, but my thinking is it wasn't a totally empty promise unless he thought he had more time before ratings really plummeted. Either there's some BA-ness in the works or it's going to flip. Greater Media seemed to have faith in this station as well as I recall. So it's something we just have to watch. Keep your ears on. It's been very, very quiet. We know what that usualy means. Things with WSMJ in Baltimore were very quiet for a while, but the excitement of sponsoring the Dave Koz concert there last year gave it away to the savviest Smooth Jazz radio watchers that he was taking afternoons there. But they pulled a fast one and flipped on us. Keep a watch on WJJZ in September.

Real Oldies? Why not Big Band? It's just as likely.

And you're leaving out one massive reason to hold onto, or dump, any format...is it making money? Look at WIP, far outperforming financially versus ratings. Look at the old Joe Niagara "Station Of The Stars" WPEN, far underperformed financilly versus it's ratings.

how about we give trenton their frequency back, but this time make sure millenium gets it.

You left out the station jjz originally succeeded. Eagle106 was near the top in ratings when its plug was pulled.

WJJZ has been a joke for most of the decade. How can you call Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder and The Eagles!!! of all groups "Smooth Jazz". Maybe they would suceed if they actually played the music they advertised! Also, there seems to be two threads here. Some are talking about Wired96.5, so what is the connection?

In my opinion, it would be a shame to lose WJJZ.

However, I agree that the music is stale.

When they came back on the air at 97.5, the music was really great. WHAT HAPPENED?

Little by little, they got rid of some creative variety and settled on predictable music that is overplayed and at times not really smooth jazz.

I am not the biggest smooth jazz listener but as I said once before, in this genre of music, you can get away with playing a lot of variety and the audience, I feel, would be receptive to it.
