How much longer does Pulse 87 have?

nd2023

Banned
They were supposed to go off the air today, but fortunately they didn't. But the beg-a-thon and the low stock price raise a lot of questions about the financial health of Mega Media. How much longer do you think Pulse 87 has till MMDA runs out of money?

I set the over/under at 6 months and take the under. That's me being pessimistic, but it's a sad truth for the Pulse 87 cheerleaders on here. I hope I'm wrong.

MMDA ran out of money a long time ago. If you read the press releases they have been operating at about a 5 million dollar loss. Not sure how long creditors or the fcc give stations to pay up. And anyway the FCC can demand all stations go digital whenever they want. Thus leaving pulse 87 for dead that way as well

In the scheme of things ... it doesn't matter how long they have.

Dreaming it ... won't save it. Only an influx of millions of dollars will. Not listeners, not great tunes, nothing. Why? Because you can't dream away the problems of a company with no money and little influence, despite having it's many fans. The company isn't making money.

So, speculating on how it will last is a futile exercise in madness. It gets nothing, it means nothing, it will be shortly a very boring thing to talk about ... because it changes nothing.

Just enjoy it while you can.

I'm not going to predict any outcome here. As Oaktree stated, enjoy it while you can.

It's going to take a major investor/investment to save the station. And even that it's still a risk because of the low dial position and limited signal plus other governmental factors that could come to play here. To that, I already have a "Plan B" on standby.

Look, I'm going to keep it positive (that's what we are about with the coalition, positivity and proactivity) but at the same time I have to keep this real too. The vast majority of the Pulse 87 staff, past and present, have been nothing but good and kind to us. And not just to me but everyone they meet; I've seen this firsthand. Their professionalism clearly shows on the air as well as during events. I do see the "street team" and other departments busting their butts during the concert events (such as Playland and the one I went to last night, Glo Nightclub in Westbury). One staffer imparticular, I don't know if he was or is a cop but certainly looks it, is definitely "no nonsense". Yet I can't help to think that all that has been happening lately has been a real "morale sinker" for those that work there because, yeah, while yes it IS a job, the people that are working there LOVE this music! I'm sure none of the staffers that appeared on Monday felt proud to announce that the station was in trouble (special props to Borasio, Showboat and Ruby Tuesday for being as professional as they were during that rough patch). Yet, I appreciate what they and everyone else at the station does :) and that is what matters to our community.

To that I say, the Pulse 87 people would be the type of staff I would want to hear and see again once another station here does the contemporary dance format. And IT WILL appear on another station because if that radio-thon proved something, it showed that there IS the huge fanbase that wants this sort of programming on the air. There IS demand for contemporary dance. And if corporate still doesn't "get it" because of their lack of understanding regarding the dance format, we'll just keep fighting and educating until they do! :)

The "usual suspects" of naysayers here and elsewhere will do whatever they can to try to squash with their arguments about dance music never working, along with a certain amount of "ignorance" towards dance music and its fans. Those people you can NEVER change, and that's okay. They like what THEY like and we like what WE like. "Tomato, ToMAHto". But I will say this.....attack the argument, NOT THE PEOPLE because you cross a line when you do.

Love or hate Pulse, the station did create an impact. It made an impact without ANY sort of advertising (subway, highway billboards), getting people to think differently to go down to a radio position below 92.1. Pulse provided a compelling reason for people to get back onto the radio dial since all that terrestrial radio is now is "cookie cutter", and no matter how it is packaged, programming wise it is "crap". Despite the finances of Mega Media, Pulse HAS done something to re-energize the New York radio landscape. As much as corporate doesn't appear to be "listening", they're well aware. :)

Yeah it's for the advertisers, I am aware of that, and not for us. Yet FM radio still is losing more folks (the crowd under 25 has shut the industry out for the most part, since the industry felt that they weren't important to be catered to, the iPod and streams have that sector). And for those of us older folks, we're gonna die off down the road. If you have already lost the under 25 folks, that will eventually become that "desired demo" in the future, then really...what is left?

I'm not going to predict the demise of Pulse because we don't need to. We will continue to support the station until the last day, whether it is 4 months or tomorrow. I hope they NEVER pull off anything else like this again but we will keep it positive and happy because as dance music fans, that's who we are, positive and happy. The music does that to us :). I see it in the clubs :). You can take away the station, but you can't take away that spirit! :)

Thank you....

If only it had continued its radiothon and didn't refund the money, they would have raised enough money to put a significant dent in the debt. However, by doing this, they shot themselves in the foot in terms of investor relations.
I think that Mega Media will stick with the Pulse format till it goes bankrupt.

But in the process, it would have had its credibility questioned down the road by the listeners, figuring "okay, we've saved the station but how long could they last with that donation, and what's to say they won't "beg" me again?" So, that would have in effect "shot itself in the foot with the listeners", and you DON'T want that.

At this point it is what it is, so enjoy the station.
