How quickly they change

Let's see if I can get this straight.

gso market - 100.3 in '95 was 70's album cuts that Rock 92 wasn't playing as WFXF The Fox.. Sept brought the change to WHSL Country.. then (with the TQR group buy)the format swap of 94.5 (alt rock) with 100.3 putting on rock as the Buzzrd and "classic Country" on 94.5 - to 94-5 Beat... to Spanish...as the way was cleared for 105.7 FMX to go R&B-ish. and thru it all 7 owners in 8 years.

I think.

At least that's my story and I'm sticking with it.

... and then from there, Clear Channel opened a Pandora's box with the WFMX flip, which led to:

(1) Entercom killing Oldies 93 and flipping it to country as 93.1 The Wolf, in apparent retaliation for WFMX/WMKS going up against 97.1 QMG;

(2) then, in response to Oldies 93's death, Hitz 94 pulls a WWMY and swoops in to fill in the oldies gap--- both in the Triad and in Charlotte--- by becoming "Majic 94.1";

(3) Meanwhile, after making a total mess of the G'boro FM dial, the Clear Channel wrecking ball then moves to Smoketree Court in Raleigh--- and the only good change I can see in the Smoketree makeover is what Chris Shebel has done with 93.9. The River is a total mess, and so is RDU (****-A-DOODLE-DOO!!!). I still think the only reason they didn't call it "106.1 The Bull"--- which would have been more accurate than "The Rooster"--- is that the "Bull" moniker has already been taken by WDNC-AM 620. At least they resurrected a semblance of the "original" River--- that is, the AAA incarnation--- on 100.7-HD2, the only CC-R HD-2 channel that is currently online (all five of CC-G's stations have their HD-2 channels online).

Right on, Fingar! Kind of like musical chairs isn't it? The only good I can see is that it might force some stations to be better. I'm sure WTQR has been working hard to clean up its act since The Walf came on the scene, and 94.1 sounds more "hip" (for lack of a better word) than 93.1 did. WMKS in my opinion is just a waste of space. What a dreadful stupid move that was. I think you're exactly right that some of these changes (Entercom and CC) came because of retaliation. I thought so from the beginning. And doesn't it make for a boring market to have those two groups doing the same formats? I think so.

:eek: Why does everyone keep calling "The WOLF".. The WALF ?

You have a point JohnQ. Guess it depends on how smart management is. I've seen some pretty bad knee-jerks in the past.

More like classic hits. But they could have been doing some album cuts no one else was doing.
