How the heck did THIS happen?

Just wondering.....All season long the Sabres games were carried in Rochester by WROC 950AM.Driving to work today, I hear a promo on WHAM advising that THEY are carrying the playoffs starting with Saturday's game. What happened here? How was WHAM able to grab the games now that everyone is interested in them??? Especially since they originate on an Entercom station in Buffalo and were being carried on an Entercom station in Rochester...and now apparently have been awarded to a Clear Channel station.WHAT'S UP WITH THAT???Mr. Doyle??

Yeah,..but I wouldn't expect they (WHAM) could run Westwood One (or some other network) coverage of say...a BILLS game... could they??? I mean,... what the hell??
I may be wrong, but I think the rights to playoff coverage are a seperate contract. The season coverage has ended, and playoff coverage has begun. If the rights were already obtained on a "Regardless of who's in the playoffs" basis, then Wham is very lucky.

Both WHAM and WROC carried the game yesterday; WHAM with Westwood One's NHL Radio and WROC with Jeanerette and Lorentz.

Regarding WHAM-WROC/WBZA, it may be that the playoffs and regular season are two distinctly different seasons with regard to carriage and broadcast rights. The key issue might be that Buffalo and Rochester are considered to be two distinct markets mutually exclusive and as such, WHAM gets a pass to carry the games via Westwood One because WROC carries the Sabres as a network affiliate of WGR. I could be way off base on this, it's just a theory based on observation of past events. It's also correct that this wouldn't happen in the Bills' case because WCMF has a direct contract with the Bills to broadcast games in the Rochester market; it's not carrying the Bills as a network affiliate, rather, it's a primary carrier in a different market. In the NFL and MLB, at least, the rights to air the championship game/series using local broadcasters is restricted to the flagship station -- all others, even network affiliates, must take the national feed. This is an improvement...when the Phillies were in the WS in 1980, their regular broadcast team was not able to broadcast the championship series -- even the flagship station had to take the network feed.Fans howled, and the rules were changed such that at least the station designated the flagship could use the regular team.I am wondering if the NHL's arrangements are similar.Richard (formerly from East Aurora) in Allentown, PA
