How the mighty have fallen

Let's not forget his most recent stint as a superhero.

"If you ever need me, here's John Stossel's cell phone. Hugh Downs, awaaaaaay!"

1. How can you be sure it's phoney?

2. Hugh Downs can probably buy the house you live in a couple of times with what he got for that infomercial.

3. The tv station made a lot of money when that played (believe me.

I was wondering why he did that infomercial as well. I could hardly believe it myself when I saw it. Saw what you will about Hugh Down's wealth, to me it was indeed a blow to his credibility and a poor choice on his part. Maybe at this age in his life, he doesn't care and found it hard to turn down the money. It still looks real tacky.

He also does commercials for Hospice of the Valley in Phoenix.

Hugh Downs started his career pitching soap on the radio version of "Guiding Light." He was host of the TV game show "Concentration." Why is it so out of character for him to do an infomercial?

Hugh Downs chose to retire from "20/20."
He's also 86 years old, so I don't think he's
going to be inundated with offers from the
networks.

Hugh Downs was, also, Jack Parr's announcer/second banana on the TONIGHT show. I believe he hosted TODAY for a while and was a guest star on CAR 54 WHERE ARE YOU.

Fallen, schmallen. His agent got him the money he wanted. He put on his sui and showed up, read the prompter and got the check. All in a days work.

Credability all the way to the bank. Jack Parr, the guys from Car 54, most of the people from Concentration are DEAD. He's breathnig and collected a check for an EASY JOB. You would, too.
