How to destroy an AM and TV stations credibility in 10 seconds

I remember hearing Jack Parnell telling a story a number of years ago of how the little window came to be in front of the WHBQ studios on Highland. He said the DJ would be reading the forecast for sunny weather and it would be pouring rain outside. The radio studio originally had no window, and they wouldn't know what was going on. Later, the little window was added to give the on-air DJ a look at the outside world. Everytime I drive by that location I can't help but look at the window and think of that story.

I had heard that story too.....don't remember where I heard it. Did Bob McLain ever work at the Q?

Bob was at WHBQ somewhere between Brother Jon Rivers and Rick Dees, for sure in 1976. Bob had previously been the morning guy at WMPS (musicradio 680) prior to the arrival of Dees. In 1976, in rapid succession, Bob left for WIBG, which left me to do mornings (since I was the "swing" jock) up against Mr. Dees; John Long came on board as PD at Q and moved Stu Robb into mornings (sliding me into 9 to noon); Mr. Dees was fired at WMPS, and came over to WHBQ.
I also can't pass 485 South Highland without glancing at the little rectangular window. I remember the time it snowed and i built a foot-tall snowman and set it in the window. IIRC, someone once threw a brick through it one time when Robert E. Knight was on the air (he wouldn't play the disgruntled listeners' request).

Understand, radio has gone from choosing between talented night jocks like Dickie Doo Edwards, Mason Dixon, Stu Robb, Dan Wilson/Donnie Brooks, Tom Kent or Sheila; or flipping it over to the Big89 and listening to John Landecker take everyone to school TO THE POINT WHERE I'M HAPPY TO HEAR A NON VOICE-TRACKED LIVING HUMAN BEING ON THE AIR DURING A STORM!
