How to follow active news events

During the Presidential vote counting and during the as-it's-being-uncovered coverage of these terrible murders I would tune in and get the most up-to-date information. Then I'd shut it off and come back in 20 minutes to a half hour. That way I don't sit through the constant re-stating of what we already know, and analysis that is only there to fill time.
