Now THERE'S someone who has their "Thinking Cap" On!!

Couldn't agree more!! That Satellite programming seems to be doing a world of good for WCTC!

Get a new thinking cap.

You want to flip WCTC to another format, so you can "wean" it back to the current format - only with local hosts. All you'll do is drive away the talk audience. Profits require revenues. It's easier to sell talk than oldies. Profit requires revenues greater than expenses. Local is more expensive than syndicated.

Talk radio - outside of Roberta Gale - really isnt my thing, so I probly do have a bias against talk formats (I do love XM 150 though).

However, with WMTR beating WCTC in the Somerset/Union book (which is the book that WCTC quotes on their website for sales), it seems that oldies would be a good bet. Use the same playlist as WMTR - just live and local jocks. Same imaging (Im sure Tony Griffin would cut them a break on re-singing the jingle package), and promote the hell out of it (newspapers & billboards). With WCTC's non-directional 24 hour signal, it could pull in at least a 2 share. Stream it like WMTR & WJRZ for in-office listening.

One more thing too......promote the AM Stereo just to make me and Kevin T happy... <P ID="signature">______________

The key here is to balance good programming with keeping costs down.

I would concentrate on morning drive with a solid host (with strong interviewing skills)and an emphasis on local news. Beef up the news department if needed. And do as much coverage of local sports as the traffic will bear. Do Infomercials on Saturday (but be selective) and churches on Sunday; both pay the rent. For the rest of the day, cherry pick syndicated talk shows that perform well in suburban and mid-sized markets (possibly countering the political talk coming out of Manhattan with more life-style and advice talk). Of course, if there are any current local talk shows that make money, leave them in place.

Tom, you're too close to the biz to think seriously stations should program based on your own preferences.
