How Toxic Is KFWhyEye?

With Rush Limbaugh advertisers bailing faster than supporters at a Paul Babeu fundraiser, the question we're kickin' around at the Media Hut is how toxic all of this is this to sales on 5~Fifty? Both el Rushbo and Sean Hannitty have been on the same bashing bandwagon and scorched earth formats for years. Together they account for six hours of prime listenership at KFWhyEye and probably command the station's top rates. Nurse Jeff and I can't help but believe this is goin' hit 5~Fifty's bottom line and make KT'R very happy!

It's not just advertisers now. I read he got booted from a west coast station over his comments. First Fox news starts moving back center and now the world is turning on Rush? uh oh.

Food for thought Rush, Hannity, etc. etc. Maybe they should have more positive dialogue. Maybe people may listen. The bashing is not dialogue; it's just childish :p

From Yahoo.com this morning there are now two stations that have dropped Rush and musician Peter Gabriel has also taken steps to prohibit the playing of his music on the program. All this in addition to the approximately dozen sponsors who have suspended or quit the program.

Have any of KFYI's advertisers bailed? Haven't heard of any. And I'd be surprised if they lost even one listener for any reason other than death due to old age.

Re: How Toxic Is KF WhyEye?

Limbaugh seemed to tell people not to patronize sponsors who dropped him. That would mean Hannity has advertisers that Rush says to boycott?

Toxics at KFWHYEYE? You mean the 55 gallon drums stacked out back? Oh, that is Barry Young's supply of Rogaine.

Nice. ELRushbo's ego speaks volumes. He takes a crap on the stations sponsors?
Not smart business...
Thanks ELRushbo! The idea is to help the business. Who's in charge at this train wreck? ???

Man, I can't wait until all these old guys die off and I can listen to talk radio again.

Of course, at that point, I'll be old and people will be saying that about me.

"Again"? Are you talking about Phoenix? KTAR effectively killed off legit "talk radio" in this market -- talk show hosts talking amongst themselves, not with callers, is not "talk radio" -- neither is it "talk radio" for hosts to read text messages that are supposedly sent in by listeners (um...yeah, sure it's a text from a "listener." ::)) thereby relegating legit, by-the-format "talk radio" back to the AM (among the likes of KFYI, KNST, KFNX).

I am not a listener of talk radio but posts here seem to indicate a talk host can either take calls or not - it does not invalidate the program. And as far as taking "calls" via Twitter, text message or email - what's the difference? Personally I would rather hear the host read a question or comment than try to understand an aging or drunk caller. I submit if you feel a host is being deceitful about the comments or questions they receive it reflects badly upon the host and possibly the station but not talk radio at large.

I cannot begin to imagine how boring a movie "Talk Radio" (the pre-Limbaugh classic that popularized the format) would have been if it resembled KTAR circa 2012. Yes, it is deceitful for a "talk radio" station to exclude listener calls from their local programs as a matter of programming policy and, yes, it reflects poorly upon Bonneville. Clear Channel, at least, runs KFYI like a legit "talk radio" station. .

Or at least Clear Channel runs KFYI like a talk radio station for the over 55 set.

Spend some time listening to Travis Rodgers on Yahoo Sports Radio.

Twitter could be the best thing ever that's come to talk radio, because with 140 characters you have to get to the point. Listener tweets are the best part of Travis' show and are quite creative. Calls are few and far between. It's my favorite talk show.

Which is why Nurse Jeff and I hold the copyright on "NewsTweet 92~Three" ;D

But getting back to toxicity levels at KFWhyEye, they're pretty high and the fallout will continue until the elections in November. But on the plus side, the station is a great platform for Dan Qualye and his merry band of birthers!

...Rush has a history of crapping on station owners, too. One example was during the first week of his TV show, when he read a story published in the Milwaukee Journal, and he used the pet name for the Journal that his Milwaukee radio affiliate, Hearst-owned WISN/1130, frequently used: "The Milwaukee Urinal." Apparently, Limbaugh thought the TV show was running on Hearst's WISN-TV/12. It wasn't -- the affiliate was WTMJ-TV/4, owned by the Milwaukee Journal. WTMJ-TV immediately shifted Limbaugh's show from 11:35, between Jay Leno and David Letterman, to 1:05, after Bob Costas, and kept him there for the remainder of his TV run...

The answer to the question is not toxic at all. Talk radio, or at least good talk radio, thrives as long as people care what the hosts are saying. While people can disagree on politics, when political correctness or incorrectness forces a station to go from brash to bland we all lose.

Mas-- I agree to a point. I know if I yell fire in a crowded theatre I go to jail. I know if I incite a crowd to violence I also go to jail. Somtimes it is'nt always political correctness or incorrectness. Most of time it's about common sense, because freedom isn't always 100% free neither. The people can agree with you, but if you are fired by your boss you are just fired ;)
