how Voice Imaging Talent is heard

I've been lurking on this board for a while and there seems to be a nice mix of Creative Services/Production folks as well as VO talent here. As a voice imaging talent, my questions to BOTH groups are:
What do you think is the best/most effective way for a voice imaging talent to make contact with Creative Services/Production Directors (ie:post cards, emails, phone, industry publication/website ads, etc)?

What's the best format to access/listen to a demo (link to website, CD, flash drive, email-requested or not)?

What frequency do you find LEAST OFFENSIVE to hear from prospective voice imaging talent? How often is too annoying....but what keeps their name in your head for future opportunities?

Thanks for letting me pick your brain!

I have a box of plastic manequin feet that I bought at an auction.

I send one wrapped in a nice box via FedEx with my demo DVD and a nice plastic sign that says:

"Now that I have my foot in your door"......

Nobody has ever forgotten that..and it actually got me a station or two.

One PD still has my foot in his office..although he replaced me years ago..We still talk.

Welcome to the boards Toni..please contribue often!

Thanks Chuck and Jeff for the advice and the welcome!

Jeff...I thought you were heading down the road of a horse head in the bed! Attention grabbing, but not obnoxious. I'm trying to push my brain back into marketing mode. As I am finding out, trying to get more national business involves more than just knowing someone, who knows someone (although--that never hurts!)

BTW gentlemen---I checked out both of your sites....awesome pipes!

LOVE it! I'm gonna "borrow" that idea some day.

PS - Can you email me your real estate idea again. I got a new pc and lost your other email regarding the topic. Mu sister's a real estate office manager and she's interested.

Although it is convenient, be careful about just sending random MP3's to people. If they're corporate, firewalls will often block them, they might get spam filtered, or the recipient might be leery to open them due to viruses, trojan horses etc.
So I've developed a 3 tiered system for making contacts. A post card first-- just to introduce. Followed up later by an e-mail with another introduction and the link to my website. And finally a phone call, even if it just goes to voicemail, it gets your name to them again.

Remember, although you don't want to reach the pest level, most sales take 3 to 4 contacts before a transaction is initiated. So the saying "The 3rd time is the charm" has some basis in the sales business.

also get the name of the PD. Sometimes they're the ones making those decisions.

And links to websites are better than attachments. like FMDawg said it might not get by the firewall if it has an attachment.
