While I am not fond of a lot of the personalities on KDKA Radio, I do have to say that I was quite impressed and proud of KDKA's performance during the storm crisis last week. Throughout the storm's tenure here in Pittsburgh and the days following, KDKA did an excellent job reporting the news and engaging simulating talk with area residents about the storm's destruction as well as provide important information to residents including telephone numbers to report outages or receive help.
I really think this is what defines KDKA as "Pittsburgh's Rado Station" because it is where people can turn too. KDKA seemed to be the only station covering the storm, of course FM Newstalk 1047 won't have up to the date information since it just runs primarily syndicated programming and when I tuned into 1360, all I heard was Uncle Doggie saying, "And you should of seen her legs..."
I quickly went back to KDKA after that.
Nevertheless, I think these local stations like KDKA will be around for awhile because no one can tell you how it is in your backyard from a studio in New York City.....
