How well does KQQK Travel through Houston?

Does KQQK travel well through Houston? I'm just wondering because on my new fm antenna setup outside, out at Lavaca county, I can hear KQQK a lot of the time through KIXS Victoria, which there signal (through radio locator) shows that i'm in the red of there local coverage. But a lot of the time I hear KQQK trying to come through KIXS even durring the non-skip times... The same happens to me on KITE and KQBU and same with KHPT & KLUB. When the conditions from Houston realy enhance out there I cant pick up much of Victoria. I can also pull in some of the Beaumont stations fairly well like KQXY, KIOC is realy the main ones.

j, From the reception at home and from driving around and how the station holds up when there are medium to strong tropo conditions I would rate KQQK as on of the poorer signals. If I rated the stations using the above criteria with 10 the best and 1 the worst, the stations would rate this way for me.

10-KTHT 97.1 Country Legends, I forget the station is a rimshot from north of Cleveland.
9-KQBU 93.3 usually good solid signal, have finally heard KITE during strong tropo opening.
7-KIOL 103.7 usually pretty decent, does fade frequently though when driving.
7-KTJM 98.5 generally decent signal, it may be better than KIOL.
7-KKHT-FM 100.7 better signal now with stereo turned off.
5-KQQK 107.9 can be very good or very bad, so gave it a 5.
4-KJOJ-FM 103.3 fair but weak, if FCC approves bringing station to full C parameters will be much better.
2-KFNC 97.5 this signal needs divine help, no matter how good KFNC may get, the signal could kill the station. I get interference every day on KFNC.

Thanks, I know on 97.5 that antenna down there kind of has a hard time pulling it in, but it does fairly well with it. In my truck down there 97.5 is dead same with 103.7, but most of the other Houston stations come in ok, or at least listenable, Victoria comes in the best down there in a car radio. I see on the FCCinfo page that KJ-97 just got a applet to move to 96.9. Looks like they are starting to do there moves now, Theres a new station in Karnes City 103.1 KTXX right now is broadcasting spanish music, who knows what they might turn into. I was able to get KFNC last night up here near Austin for a little bit untill the storms came through then KJ-97 came back over it (thats even with my antenna here pointed to San antonio).

KJ97 is looking to move to 96.9?? Cant see that happening. Too close to KHFI. Of course, if KHFI moved back to 96.5 as it was many years ago, that might be able to work then. BTW, outta curiosity what would be the need to move from 97.3 to 96.9??

This is all part of a large scale frequency realignment in Texas and Oklahoma. I'm not sure if the particulars have changed, but here is what would transpire:

KAJA moves from 97.3 to 96.9
KHFI moves from 96.7 to 96.5

The above moves allow two events to occur:

1) 97.7 from Cuero/Lake McQueeney moves their stick to the Tower of the Americas for a city grade San Antonio signal.

2) A new 97.3 frequency opens up in Austin

I have heard that 97.5 in Waco would then move to another frequency and downgrade and that a 97.5 rimshot will target the Metroplex. Initial speculation was that KWTX would move to 92.9, although I have not heard what would become of the existing 92.9 in the Waco area.

The one question I have regarding KAJA's move to 96.9 is how that will work with KIOX in El Campo; those two signals seem awful close to be sharing the same frequency.

The coordinates for KIOX-FM 96.9 28-48-03N 96-07-32W as a Class C0 and KAJA 96.9 29-30-01N 98-46-41W Class C1 is seperated by 269.5 km, the required seperation for a co-channel C0 to C1 is 259 km, so while KIOX and KAJA are close, there is a 10 km cushion.

KIOX 96.9 is be built as a full Class C0, 100kw at 450 meters. The specs for KAJA 96.9 has not been released yet, other than the coordinates so I used a full Class C1, 100kW at 299 meters for seperation purposes.

I don't understand while the FCC was reallocating half of Texas and southern Oklahoma, that Houston was not included in the reallocation of assignments?

Mike O

Yeah,
Looks to me like Houston would be the main priority other than other cities.
