How will Dave Spin this?

If you spent anytime listening to DAVE-FM over the past three months, PD Michelle Engle has been vehement that DAVE will be the first station to announce when the re-united Police will be playing Atlanta. Well the final tour dates are set and the Atlanta date is...not gonna happen! The closest Sting, Andy and Stew will play is Bonnaroo. I don't know of many 45-year-old Police fans who are going to camp out for three days to see them play a 45-minute set. The irony is that first The Police reunion on the Amnesty International Tour in 1986 was in...Atlanta.

Score another defeat for Michelle Engle and her horrible programming and promotions ideas.

In other DAVE setbacks; the biggest draw on their station from September to December may not be on the air. Michael Vick will probably face a year-long suspension plus jail time due to his involvement in illegal dog-fighting.

I think now is the right time to pull the plug on Engle and DAVE. Start fresh with a new format (all Polka?). Viacom, do it now before that station really becomes a joke.

First of all, for accuracy, Viacom does not run Dave. CBS does. Second, while I completely agree with you that Engle has 9/11'd that station from Day 1, I don't think you can blame her for The Police scheduling their tour around Atlanta. Incidentally, just because Atlanta is not on the current tour schedule doesn't mean they won't come back around for a second leg in the Winter or next Spring. Happens all the time.

Learned Poster;

I can't blame her for the Police not stopping here, however her station, under her direction, has been promoting the fact that when the Police hit Atlanta, DAVE-FM will be the first to let you know. According to Pollstar, the Police will start and end their tour in Toronto. (http://pollstar.com/tour/searchall...._From=Today&Date_To=05-28-2009&By=All&PSKey=Y)

I do blame Engle for being so uninformed as to not know that the Police are bypassing Atlanta altogether. If I can find out the info how come she can't? You would thank that the PD of the only station that actually plays the band in normal rotation would be able to call Police management and find out if the Police are coming here, thus she can spend the right amount of time promoting it. To give her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she has a contest to win tickets to the Twickenham Rugby Grounds show in September. Perhaps there is a tie-in with the Twickenham Beer and Cider Fest. ( I challenge Sully to darts at the Up & Under on York St.)

You are dead-on with the 9/11 reference.

Good work, Neil. They're still booking the fall leg of the US tour. (Take note of the dates at the end, plus the two more announced on their website.) That doesn't mean that the fall will include an Atlanta date, but it does mean that you used bad information as a jumping point to attack Dave.

So how about an apology? Or do you want to take the over/under on a fall Atlanta date and having to eat this thread?

I don't care if people on this board have constructive criticisms/complaints about local stations, but the ongoing vendettas are just pointless and juvenile.

Theoretically Dave can still let us know when The Police are gonna hit Atlanta should they decide to play here the second leg of the tour. As for Michaqel Vick. That's the Falcons problem, not Dave's.

Not sure where this post came from, or how you can blame Michelle for the actions of outside parties.
If you hate DAVE FM that much. Why do you listen??

What is there to spin? Doesn;t look like to me that the dates are the only dates the Police are going to play. Perhaps they couldn;t make an Atlanta date work for this portion of the tour and since has more big options then some of these other locales it makes sense to play all the outdoor pavillions they can now and then come back and play ewither Georgia Dome if the tour gets that big or at least Philips. Also do you really think they are going to ship all their equipment back from Europe in November to play just two more North American dates, one in Atlantic City and one in Toronto? My guess is this reunion is a good 12 - 15 month world tour with 2 -3 US legs.

Also Mike Vick again not their fault.

You want to pick on Michele that's fine she sure hasn't done a lot to avoid criticism but your Police angle is lame at best.

I do not listen to this station, but from what I am reading here you are done with them because they said they would announce when the Police would appear here and they haven't announced a non scheduled event yet? What the...? ::)

My question is...what ever happened to The Real Other Neil? Now it's just regular Neil Millman. I like the TRON moniker!
Roddy; I tried to log in that way but the Radio-Info system said my old name was already taken. It defaulted to me real name. None the less, the sarcasm and vitriol hasn't changed.

:D This thread is hilarious. Who cares at all about the PD not knowing that the Police and their fossilized act might not come through Atlanta?

[I saw the Police twice in the early 80's. I like them, but no way is nostalgia worth what they are asking].

Actually, you heard it first on 99X...but I'm sure YOU heard it first on Dave-FM; along with the other six people. :)

heard it on 99X this morning. you know where they have an actual morning show. and i could care less about the Police or paying 10 bazilliony dollars to see them. dave reports from bonaroo were boring over the weekend. i am rambling now.

Yeah..Yeah...Yeah.. Don't be dissing my 6 people listening party. They don't make fun of my speech impediment, and they always bring snacks!

And how do you know that Dave didn't break it first???

Yesterday I heard 99x say that had a major concert announcement at 7:20 this morning. When did Dave announce it?

I'm a bit confused to why 99X is announcing it? Outside of The Retroplex, they don't play The Police. Maybe a mention would make sense, but to tease it all weekend long? Dave and The River are the stations that should be making a big deal out of this.

Actually, you did hear it first on Dave. 6 AM. And, if the ratings numbers are accurate, and you think 6 people heard the announcement on Dave this AM, then about 5 people heard the announcement on 99X.

Also, and more importantly, I hear salt and lots of ketchup make your crow taste much better. Did you ever notice how on this board when anyone says anything that turns out to be inaccurate, particularly if they are ripping someone, they just disappear from that thread?

I've been a long time reader of this board, but have never been inclined to partake - that is until now, after I came across the argument over which radio station announced the Police show first.

Is this really happening?

Who cares which station announced the Police concert first? The listeners? I highly doubt that a person will be more inclined to listen to a station because said station was the first to announce a concert.

The only people this kind of thing matters to are the station managers grasping for small victories to help ease the pain of overall failures. This is exactly the problem with radio today - too much micromanaging and emphasis on insignificant achievements. It's apparently more important to counter what the station down the street is doing than to put out a quality product. The focus isn't where it should be, and it's showing with many stations having a stagnant, generic sound. And being first on a concert announcement isn't going persuade a listener to sit through it.
