How will Dave Spin this?

I've been a long time reader of this board, but have never been inclined to partake - that is until now, after I came across the argument over which radio station announced the Police show first.

Is this really happening?

Why yes.. it is really happening! And if you notice the light hearted posts you'll realize that those of us who have responded were partaking in a little thing I like to call.....*drum roll*..........................Are you ready yet?..........................FUN!!!!!!! Yes that's right lil camper. We were making fun. Just a little something different than the normal pissing, and moaning, get your panties in a bunch over nothing that can occur on this board from time, to time. (Disclaimer: Not always, but from time to time!) Having fun...shameful isn't it!

Mostly this was just to throw a little crow back onto Jam Master Neil's court. He did start this thread after all. And now we're just waiting with baited breath (Mint anyone??) for his response. Of which I have no doubt will be forth coming, and will be full of his usual razor sharp wit! Oh yeah, and it just might be fun too! I may not agree with him when it comes to DAVE FM, but he is creative, and in a good writer! I just wish he'd stop emailing me about all those bodies of women who resemble Michelle Engle in his crawl space. Dude if you feel guilty about it STOP! As for the smell..just throw some lime down there, and hang a bunch of those pine tree car air fresheners. Who's gonna know??

Does anyone care who announced it first?? No, not really. Will I pay a bazillion dollars to see the Police. No, I'll get comp tickets as usual!!!!!

Actually, you did hear it first on Dave. 6 AM. And, if the ratings numbers are accurate, and you think 6 people heard the announcement on Dave this AM, then about 5 people heard the announcement on 99X.

Also, and more importantly, I hear salt and lots of ketchup make your crow taste much better. Did you ever notice how on this board when anyone says anything that turns out to be inaccurate, particularly if they are ripping someone, they just disappear from that thread?

Listening to both stations...99X got to it first. Sorry, I don't eat birds. And Radio K is right...who the hell wants to pay that kind of scratch to see Sting prance around singing "All This Time"?

Really? Listening to both stations? From 5a on? Wow.... I'm sure there are a lot of people that hope you get your hands on a diary....

I don't need the seven dollars.

if your listening to both of those stations simultaneously since 5 am, you need alot more then 7 bucks....if you dont get help at Charter...... ;D

This is even funnier than when WNGC put together the Tracy Lawrence concert in Athens 10 years ago, and Southern Broadcasting cut and aired a promo welcoming them before they realized whose concert is was...

Well congrats to Michelle Engle! The Police are playing Atlanta afterall. All that promotion in March welcoming the Police was rewarded with a date in...November. Will DAVE-FM be playing the Police in November? Will Michelle be there to welcome the Police on stage? Will anyone pay $300 per seat (with ticketbastard charges) to see them in concert? The answer to all three is a loud NO!

As you know, I will be the PD of DAVE-FM in November. The NEW 929 Radio Atlanta may play a few Police songs before the show only if there is sufficient ad dollars in the mix. Otherwise, it will be all-Replacements all day on November 17, 2007. The show will not sell-out. Though the Police did decades ago.

Unless the Atlanta ticket prices are different than they've been everywhere else, I imagine you're at least going to miss that prediction. Many of the venues sold out in a matter of minutes, including some with multiple shows.
I have to imagine that they'll have little trouble selling tickets in Atlanta either.

Personally, I wouldn't sit through them if they paid me $300, so I'm certainly not going to defend the reasoning nor the taste of anybody who pays $300 or even $30 for a ticket, but that doesn't change the fact that people will do so.

I kinda figured this might be the case, but I'd like to get my hands on some of the stuff you've been smoking if you don't think that show isn't gonna sell out. I'd say tickets are going to last about 90 minutes, maybe less...

But, more importantly, nice attempt at a spin job. Let us remember that the focus of the first post of this thread was you bashing Michelle Engel for plugging a concert that wasn't going to happen, when, in fact, it will. But, as I said in an earlier post, I'm sure you will continue to rant rather than admit the fact that you jumped the gun and attacked Engel before you had all the facts. But, I suppose when you have some kind of personal dislike for someone or some company or some station, it really doesn't matter. If it's not true, you can just make something new up...

Slidy;
My predictions are impeccable. I said that after the porn incident in 2004 that TRG would never work in Atlanta again and I am right. I predicted that Q100 would never get above a 2 rating even with the power boost. I said that Rodney had to re-interview for the job he already had. When have I ever been wrong?

There is no guarantee that the concert will happen. What if Sting has a long tantric session and misses the plane? What if the Hawks stink so bad that Phillips Arena is deemed too horrible to stage anything. Even Rodney Ho knows that rule number one in Journalism is that nothing is for sure until it is happening.

You claim I jumped the gun abut the alleged Police show. Yet I didn't promote the alleged event eight months before it happens. Why isn't DAVE-FM running Valentine's ads right now? That's eight months away (my Valentine will always be Chrissy Calandro.)

I have no dislike for CBS Radio, long ago I was an intern at a CBS O&O TV station and respect the Tiffany network. My dislike for Michelle is two-fold, a) she has ruined 92.9 FM, it's a known fact and b) I have to attack her coz I am running for PD of that frequency. Do you ever see Mit Romney say anything nice about John McCain?

As for you Middlega; I will sit right next to you when Andy Copeland pays me $300 to see the Police.

Who? ???
I combined Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland. I guess Michelle's Karma nailed me

Figured as much. For the record, I'm just Twitch...not Michelle's karma. ;D

Well, technically, you weren't batting a thousand on those either...

TRG did work in Atlanta again after the porn incident. (Now if by work you meant be successful, that's kinda like predicting the Hawks won't make the playoffs) Q100 has broken a 2 share. And, Rodney having to re-intervew for his job really isn't a prediction, more of a statement of fact, because anyone who knew anything about Cox knew that they were/are in the middle of a big restructure and a large chunk of staff positions had to re-interview....

Oh, and another thing....

The reason you promote a concert 8 months in advance is because it is the reuniting of an iconical group that many thought would never play together again, and, more importantly.....

The tickets went on pre-sale two days ago and go on regular sale tomorrow. And, for those of us that know about radio, you generally want to promote a concert prior to the on-sale date.....

Those who have been here a while know that I predicted TRG would never come back; they did and I ate crow on that. I am aware that Q100 is over a two; it’s called sarcasm. I let everyone on this board know that Rodney had to re-interview after he told me about it. My predictions are usually more wrong that right.

As for promoting a sale and pre-sale, you are 100% correct. This week DAVE-FM should have been promoting it. The issue I brought up, which you apparently missed, was that DAVE-FM was promoting the show (which hadn't been announced) in early March! As we now know, that's three months before the announcement and eight months prior to the actual show. Like I said, why aren't: I. Roth, Solomon Bros, Shane Co. and D. Geller promoting Valentine's Day right now? That's eight months away? Better yet, if we use Michelle Engle thinking (First time ever “thinking” and “Michelle Engle” has been used in the same sentence.) DAVE-FM should be promoting the Falcons playing in the Super Bowl starting today. There is no evidence that the Falcons will have a winning season but still, why not promote it? There was no info in March that the Police would be here in November yet she still hyped it like it was happening in three days.

Actually, you had no information about whether or not there was an impending show. You do realize, I'm sure, that there are people out there that may have more information than you regarding what might be coming down the pipe. You know, like people that actually work at radio stations rather that people who sit back and arm-chair PD every station on the marketplace.

So, in fact, perhaps someone at Dave already knew about the show, and started promoting it knowing that the window between the public announcement of the date and the ticket sale date would be very short, i.e. 3-4 days.

Point being, there are people out there that know more than you may give them credit for...
