HOW WILL HATE RADIO HANDLE DIANE PATRICK'S DIAGNOSED DEPRESSION

C

Casablanca

I can hear the bigots and haters like Jay "Axe The Governor" Severin, Howie Carr, Michael "Crackers" Graham and Todd" I am not Jewish" Feinburg making fun of First Lady, Diane Patrick's diagnosed depression.

It won't be pretty. Why would anyone ever want to run for any political office in this God forsaken place.

Let us all wish her a speedy recovery and good health. It was reported that Governor Patrick will be curtailing some of his activities to be with his wife. That is a good sign that Deval Patrick has his priorities in order - families should... no must... always come first.

Hate radio? But enough about Air America :)...I don't know if they'll do much discussion of it and if so
hopefully it'll be civil. Though certainly Kitty Dukakis' battles with the bottle provided some fodder for
jokes, as did Chuck Hunt (Jane Swift's husband) and his medical condition, etc.

Ann Romney has battled multiple sclerosis. Are the libtalkers planning to make fun of her for that?

I wish her the best in health as I do for Mrs. Patrick.

Feel the love:
Julianne Malveaux regarding Clarence Thomas: ""The man is on the Court. You know, I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease. Well, that’s how I feel. He is an absolutely reprehensible person."
(Imagine if someone had said that he wished Julianne "got breast cancer, as many women do, and dies
early".)

What a disgusting comment. No one handed Deval or Diane Patrick anything. They succeeded by their own hard work and intelligence.
It also demonstrates how ignorant you are concerning depression. If Diane Patrick were diagnosed with....oh let's see, Mutiple Sclerosis as is the very lovely Anne Romney would you say to her "go cry on a stack of money" ?
Think about what you are saying next time. As the late, great Boston attorney, Joseph Welch said to "Tailgunner" Joe McCarthy, "...at last sir [or madam] have you no sense of decency left...." !

All due respect to the First Lady of Massachusetts, and this is said with absolutely no malice, but lots of people get depressed and don't have the resources the Governor has. Kitty Dukakis had serious problems but when Dick Cheney is in hot water and almost gets assassinated and now Deval is in hot water I just find these "news stories" too convenient. This is not a right wing comment. I voted for Deval. I am disappointed that a lot of the things going on in the first few months seem to mirror things in the Bush White House. Don't attack me, Casablanca, for my opinion. You are entitled to yours, but there is something wrong about private matters getting so conveniently public. If we get depressed we have to go to our 9-5 jobs and cope with life. We don't get on the front page of the Boston Globe because we are in a deep funk. Read between the lines. Unfortunately for the First Lady of Massachusetts, as a public figure she has to get ready for a lot more hard stories coming down the pike.

I'll tell you exactly how this one is going to play out. Since the governor has been in the news so much lately for negative things, there will be accusations that this has come out to overshadow the negative publicity and get the white hot spotlight off of Deval. Some will even say Deval is looking for pity and is manipulating the media.

Meanwhile, depression is no laughing matter. Take it from one who has fought it his entire life.

no form of depression or mental illness is a laughing matter. There's still a lot of misunderstanding and misconceptions about it.

Chances are that Mrs. Patrick may have had this bout with depression whether or not her husband ever ran for political office. But it is a medical condition just as any other. I am sure that Kitty Dukakis and Anne Romney and Betty Ford and Mamie Eisenhower just to name a few partners of political office holders did not choose to come down with a medical ailment. If Diane Patrick had been diagnosed with Diabetes or some sort of cancer would anyone have said she is just doing to this to garner sympathy for her husband?

As it is, I can tell you from a chance encounter I had with Governor Patrick minutes before his office broke the story about his wife that he is still the Governor of Massachusetts and will fulfill his duties
of that office. He will just give more time to his wife and family which I think is a very positive move for any politician.

By the way, it was the first time I met Deval Patrick. He was just regular guy doing food shopping on a Saturday afternoon. That in itself is very comforting. The
Severin's, Carr's and "Crackers Graham would have you think there
was a food shopper on the state payroll. My initial impression was
that he was not full of himself and that Deval Patrick is a normal nice
guy. So, let us not distort, myself included, how most politicians
handle their daily lives. The press and talk radio would have you think
they have footmen at every turn. The reality is clearly something else.

Never battled clinical depression myself but have several friends who have and it is clearly as much a medical condition as any other. Sometimes, tests show it is a chemical imbalance brought on by stress or for no apparent reason. The pharmaceutical approach helps many but there are like all medications side effects. Most clinicians will tell you that family support is crucial to recovery. Still, there is no one blueprint for all sufferers of depression. Let us just respect Diane and Deval Patrick's privacy as we should for any other citizen and wish her a speedy and complete recovery.

With all due respect LucyLu, I'm afraid you are totally out of bounds with such a statement. Depression is a real bon-fide disease. Statements like what you've just posted are not going to help things for those people who suffer from it. Believe me, I know. These are people are not looking for pity. They only want understanding and support. Today there are so many ways for these people to get help and support. But it's prejudical statements like the one above that may cause people, who suffer from depression to not get the help and treatment they need. And for the most part...... most people who get treatment for depression get better and live full and active lives.

well stated... a close friend of mine is bi-polar. When I read that comment, it read like something you'd hear on one of those un-funny radio shows. The type of show where folks need to pick on others with perceived deficiences or what have you to make up for their own insecurities.

Is Howie Carr really a hate monger? I'm not a fan of his politics, but he doesn't seem to be the antagonizing, judgemental self righteous type, like other right wingers.

I'm guessing the usual suspects, i.e. just about all of 96.9, and WRKO hate radio will comment on how just a couple months into his job he (Deval) will shirk his duties and leave it in the hands of his Lt. Gov, all the while forgetting he is doing it to help his wife who is ill. And not even giving it a thought that it is what Romney did to Muffy. And he only did it for personal gain, not to take care of a sick family member.

>>the antagonizing, judgemental self righteous type, like other right wingers.

In the interest of balance let me say that people across the political spectrum are capable of doing this. Even
if you are in effect complimenting Howie of NOT being that type, be aware that those who ARE could be from
the left or the right and neither side has a monopoly on such.

>>leave it in the hands of his Lt. Gov

maybe, maybe not, but if he does say it I'm sure Howie will make a crack about Lt Gov Murray's weight...

If Howie does make a crack or two about Murray's weight, expect callers on the Chump Line to make remarks such as "lard butt" to Howie, who will respond, "Hey, I didn't come here to be made sport of!" ;D

What an (bleep)hole! :D

Mark it down: called him the Pillsbury Dough Boy, 3:18 pm...maybe one of the Whiner Line's callers
will go on the Chumpline and refer to Howie the same way he refers to Ordway:
"You fat bahhhhhhhhhhstid!" :)
