How will TV handle the conventions?

What we have today on the big 4 networks (excluding Fox), is what has been become known as "The Golden Hour". 10pm EDT, 7pm PDT. As such, the conventions schedule their big events in this window. If they go over, so be it...most will stay with overages. This actually has been going on for many convention cycles but it it now definitely the standard. Junkies know to turn to CNN/FOX for wall to wall, but even they edit as they please. True, CSPAN is the only true wall to wall, but lacks much commentary. Some would say that is a good thing.

Except Fox? Wait some Fox Affiliates and or O&O's will cover the convention under their local news label like KTVU. In the Case of KTVU Fox 2 San Francisco and KTVU+ aka KICU the other Fox station in the Bay Area. They air the convention from the RNC Directly and they use Fox News Feed but redubbed with local News staff narrating the events and bringing their experts in under the KTVU Fox 2 News at 7 banner. I expect Fox 2 in the Bay Area to do the same thing with the DNC convention.

Well, yes, some Fox O&O may run coverage. My post was referring to Fox-affiliated stations who won't touch this programming.

KMSP FOX 9 Minneapolis (which is an O&O) has a 9PM news so the only thing they showed was Trump's Speech on Friday. Everything else was just snippets of what had happened earlier. They do have a 10PM news which had a wrapup of the night's festivities.

Who was the Fox Affiliate or O&O that you were referring to that didn't air the convention coverage in you area?

I think there may be some confusion between Fox News Channel (cable) and Fox Entertainment affiliates, (OTA). Fox Entertainment affiliates generally do not cover conventions except on their local news programs.

Well, I'm looking forward to the Democratic Convention coverage. Can't wait to see how they will handle the coverage amid the chaos of the emails leaks and Debbie Wasserman-Schultz's resignation from the DNC.

Wow now conspiracies have came into play for the DNC. Yet the DNC go on the cable News/talk channels presenting themselves as the sane party. It will be interesting how the pundits will cover this one and how local news outlets in Philadelphia will cover this one.

Some folks who saw Trump's speech in advance said they felt he wouldn't go long. They said it was less than an hour. But he ended up going way past 11PM ET. I suspect he ad-libbed a lot from the written version.
Yeah, I didn't count on this when I recorded NBC's coverage. I already knew that Time Warner News Channel was airing Pence's speech instead of the news like they were supposed to at 11. The advantage of a 24-hour news channel is you can air the news and weather anytime, but I didn't know I wasn't going to get it at my usual time until it was too late. Only Time Warner's meteorologist can be relied on to tell us what the low and the high were, which is ridiculous. Every meteorologist should be doing that on the 11:00 news. But I forgot and deleted those extra 10 minutes of Pence's speech, and even when I tried to record more of the Time Warner News Channel, Pence was still there. And again I forgot.

I can't say any more about Pence (or Trump running over) because we can't discuss politics, but let me say I did hear what I needed to hear from both of them. I'd like to have heard more but I'm sure I can find out what I need to.

It's not political to say Trump comes across like if he wasn't wearing a suit but a flannel shirt, you'd think he was a working man. He doesn't have that polished style his kids and Pence do.

It's no accident the conventions are held in sporting arenas. A lot in common.

Well there is a Movie from 1989 Called UHF and the scene here was called Town Talk. That scene was originally a parody of Geraldo, Wally George and Morton Downey Jr at the time of the filming. Wow this scene is still true today except this time its how Cable News/talk and hype surrounding the conventions and rallies for presidential candidates.

Well, except for TEGNA in my market that devotes quite a bit of "news" time to plug NBC's upcoming coverage of the Olympic frivolity.

I don't understand why Time Warner News Channel feels the need to air the conventions. I haven't watched much except when I happened to turn it on when there was commentary ( and that was before 8), so I don't know what they do. Also, last night, Hillary was speaking when I turned on the TV, and for whatever reason, that's the station I was on. There were crawls and sports scores and stock listings below Hillary.

At the same time, it's supposed to be a local news station and I wasn't getting the local news I wanted.

Variety and Hollywood Reporter covering the conventions. I can hardly wait for the network reporters to announce to Mr. DeMille that they're ready for their closeups, as we all knew was going on anyway.

You ought to see the criticism both trades are getting from readers. With Trump, it's "why you're giving him too much press?" With Hillary it's "Oh look, they're pro-Clinton!" Personally they have good reason to cover this because whatever the outcome it will affect the entertainment industry especially when it comes to television in general.
