How would "Diva" do in Houston?

Baton Rouge LA, with Hot AC & dance format I wonder how that will work in Houston? Any thoughts? That format might just work out, What does everyone else think?

New Orleans has actually the first Diva (It came out in Novemeber 2004) with basically the same format but is more rhythemic leaning than the Baton Rouge version (which debuted last Friday). http://www.diva923.com/

But if you thought 106.9 is bad, you forgot to tell them about the Disco (including the noon hour devoted to nothing but Disco) and 80's music that is mixed with the Hot A/C (with some danced up) and some Dance songs... It's a mix sort of like the "Jack stations" as of late IMO..

The format is liked by some males and females but one of it's downfalls is it's actual imaging aiming it at women who sometimes find the name corny...

Right now the original is avaliable in both the New Orleans and Baton Rouge markets (with numbers middle of the pack in New Orleans and bottom third in Baton Rouge), With the Baton Rouge Version rimshotting into the western New Orleans suburbs using the same imaging with just a slight change.

But for an idea of what the stations sound like, Try Diva 92.3's top 10 mp3 samplier:

KIOC in Orange had a format like that several years ago, before the rock was returned. It was called Hot 106.1 and it was plain awful. It drove listeners away in droves.

Dallas kind of had a station like this for awhile. I think it might do well at first, like "The Point" did, but it would quickly lose its luster. There is just not that much an audience for it. The fan base it has, I'm sure are loyal, but their CUME probably is very low, not to mention the key 18-49 demos.

I think the audience is very limited. Although, those that frequent places like South Beach or Rich's would love it. I cringe at the thought of going through another dance station!

I admit that I like a lot of dance/pop music, but I doubt the station would last.
It has a corny name and I'd probably feel a little gay listening to something called "Diva" (no offense to anyone intended).
Sounds like something that should just be a stunt.

lol i hear that, maybe they could name it something else, but I hope those types of stations do, do well I'd like to see a come back in dance on FM like it was back in the 90's.

I know that jras is urning for a high-enegergy dance station and I must admit, I wouldn't be offended if one entered the dial.
However, "Diva"'s success, or at least semi-success, is a product of being in the right market at the right time.
"Diva" would probably do little more than KJOJ during its dance days. There would be a large sampling period as their was with Mega, but unlike Mega, "Diva"'s select audience would be honed within a few books and it would be very limited.

KRBE should bring back "The Beat," or at least modify what they're doing now on Saturday nights and rename it "The Beat."

I wonder if jras has heard KHKS in Dallas's mixshow on Friday nights--truly dreadful. The same 20 rap/r&b and rock songs you hear during the regular hours played over and over with a few scratches here and their by the dj so they can call it a mixshow. They play "In Da' Club" and "Hollaback Girl" for christs sake!

At least we have a show in KRBE that plays some dance and while full-throttle, it's better than nothing.

Sounds like the same thing kiss-fm does in Austin, they use to play dance on friday nights but they switched to hiphop & top 40. I REALY miss the days of Kiss 98.5 & 103.3, 100.7 the party 104.1 "thebeat" Wasnt the ratings a lot higher for KRBE when they were doing the beat and dance friendly? I seem to recall that when they were doing that, they were neck and neck of being number one with 97.9. Looks like they would of noticed that. I gues dance would probably never be popular again over the FM waves for our lifetime. I gues I'll be getting my dance stuff from Internet or Sat radio. Around here in Central Texas radio, Dance is dead. Nothing now. :(

I think the biggest problem facing dance music is that not many people want to listen to it unless they are dancing to it.
It would also help if there were actually good dance songs out there.
it seems like the quality of dance music (at least for me) has been in the decline since the mid to late 90's.
Most of the newer stuff I come across sounds like trance with bad lyrics sung by someone who doesn't know how to put any feeling behind their voice.
That and all the lame-ass cover songs.
Those covers of Owner of A Lonely Heart and Love Bites make me cringe.

The problem I've heard lately is most Dance is as you said either some sort of continuous Trance going or Top 40 songs redone by a DJ for the dance market. When you are in the club, compared to listeneing out of the club, sometimes the warts show bigger in life outside and turns them off... I can't remember the song, But heard one that due to the remix, sucked any life out of it (due to the chopping of vocals)....

Diva in New Orleans is a take on "Jack" IMO as the playlist which can be found at yes.com, will show that it takes the same random format as other variety hits stations... Once the neweness wears off, I think you'll see numbers drop espcially on the Baton Rouge one...

DIVA WOULD ROCK HOUSTON

DIVA could work very well in Houston. Target females for sure but Houston has a HUGE gay and lesbian community that would likely respond well to the format. Advertisers are lookiong for ways to corner this market with huge amounts of disposable income and limited "traditional" family responsibilities.

Bring on the DIVA!
