How would YOU improve Tampa radio??

Deumig/Duemig, whatever.

Half of The Golf Channel's promotional material spells it with the "e" first and the other half with the "u" first.

The problem with the market is that there has never been a "real" sports station like WEEI Boston or WFAN New York that has existed here. Thus the people born and raised in Tampa have never been exposed to a "Dennis & Callahan" or "Mike & The Mad Dog," and thus they think the idiots at 620 and 1470/Genesis are talented.

I just loved listening to the Dumb Dog get crucified by his listeners for his retarded "support the troops" show on Tuesday.

Deckerhoff remains one of the worst "irritating homer announcers," right up there with YES Network's Michael Kay.

As for Jack Harris, you could probably do a drinking game based around every time Harris calls the Storm "the Bucs."

At least Sileo recognizes that there are fans of other sports teams that live in Central Florida and lets them talk about non-market teams.

The Tampa market remains intensely screwed-up, ever since the old JACOR PD's decided to let Mason Dixon go ahead with his idea of orienting his entire show around wacky calls from redneck longhaul truckers. There have been a few positive steps in recent years: Cleveland Wheeler being banished to satellite, the firing of Bubba, Outlaw being flipped and Cowhead's short stint at 98Rock, etc.

How to improve radio? Turn off every computer in the country. I hate the thought of going back to reel to reel editing. But it would be a small price to pay for better radio.

Oh geez, where to begin:

The Buccaneers Radio Network:

- Gene Deckerhoff will be fired and replaced by Mick Hubert.

- Gators Radio Network head producer "Stunning" Steve Egan will take over as game day producer for the Bucs.

Good grief, replace one over-zealous homer with another one? ooooh-kayyyy...

1010 WQYK:

- 1010 will be shut down and CBS Radio will formally surrender their license to broadcast on the 1010 frequency back to the FCC.

Get rid of Yankee baseball and I'll actually have respect for that station.

620 WDAE:

- 620 will get back the rights to ESPN Radio from Genesis. Fox Sports Radio and the incredibly offensive J.T. the Brick will be dropped from the Tampa market entirely.

Ain't happnin'. Have you even heard the worldwide leader in hype lately? Good grief!! The Animal is already cutting back on FSR programming as it is (more on that later), but JT is their crown jewel and arguably the best syndicated sports-talker in the nation, and, oh, he's anything BUT offensive.

- "The Steve Deumig Show" will be cancelled. Steve will be forced to co-host a 'roundtable' show with Ron Diaz, Ian Beckles, and emceed by Todd Wright.

Come on now, love him or hate him, Duemig's the best in this market. Expect him to raise his game now that he has local competition on the dial. Todd Wright is too good for local radio. You should know that. Roundtable idea sounds good as a segment to wrap up the week, but not as a whole show.

- Whitney Johnson will be fired. 620 will run liners from station management apologizing for ever putting that spaz on the air.

He does get a little annoying, but fire him?! That statement's irresponsible and irrational.

- Whenever 620 does a remote broadcast, the host will no longer be allowed to give the sponsor extended air-time ala Vitamin Super Center's "Dr. Garko" or those "Boat-A-Miniums."

Uh, that's why they're advertisers, they pay to promote their product. Hello??

- Steve Deumig will be forbidden from talking about the following subjects: golf, horse racing, gambling, conservative politics, supporting the troops, non-sports topics in general.

- Ron Diaz will be forbidden from using his irritating catchphrase "He got hammered."

- Ian Beckles will be forbidden from using his irritating catchphrase "That's a beautiful thing."

HUH???!!!

- All locally hosted weekend shows will be cancelled. It will be ESPN Radio for the entire weekend. "The Blitz" idiots will be fired. "The Captain Mel" show will be cancelled, though Capt. Mel will be offered a job as host of a Smooth Jazz show on one of the FM stations.

Wrong. A local weekend show gives the sports station a certain uniqueness to it and allows it to catch up on loose ends for topics that they normally wouldn't cover during the week (such as outdoors, golf, etc.). I would not, though, have Mel on the Animal on Sunday, for he already has his widely popular fishing show on 970 Saturdays, and I feel that it's somewhat redundant. I will agree with you on "the Blitz" however.

- 620's weekday line-up will look like this:

6-9: The Dan Sileo Show (simulcast from 740 The Team in Orlando)
9-12: Tampa Roundtable with Todd Wright, Steve Deumig, Ron Diaz, and Ian Beckles
12-3: The Jim Rome Show
3-6: Coach & Company w/Marc Daniels (simulcast from 740 The Team in Orlando)
6-9: The Finish Line w/Jerry & The Shot Doctor (simulcast from 740 The Team in Orlando)
9-12: The Dan Patrick Show (tape delay)
12-6: ESPN Radio overnight

Are you serious??? As the poster before me stated, we don't care about Orlando, and Orlando don't care about us. So why in the sam hill would you want 740 the Team's ENTIRE ROSTER simulcast into Tampa? Please. If anything, either move Ron and Ian to the morning drive slot and air "Out of Bounds" on FSR from 9-12, or air "The First Team on Fox" on Morning Drive followed by Ron and Ian. Anything to get Sileo off Tampa radio would be a sound for sore ears. And, oh, before I forget, do we really need Ledge to host a program on the Animal from 7-10??

- Jack Harris will be fired as PBP announcer for the Tampa Bay Storm and replaced by Tom Morgan, who serves as fill-in PBP announcer for the Orlando Predators. Tom will also take over as PBP announcer for the USF Bulls football team.

- Clear Channel will end all association with the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and run ads encouraging Major League Baseball to contract the team unless Stu Sternberg starts spending his own personal fortune to sign big-money free agents.

While I don't like the Storm (or Arena football for that matter), Harris won't get fired. In fact, I like him as the voice of the Storm. Heck, if he didn't have so much to do already, I think Jack would love to do the USF gig as well, and I wouldn't mind hearing him do that! As for the Rays, I want to say that CC tried to get rid of them when the contract with 970 expired three years ago. Thing was, there was no AM station not owned by CC that had a signal powerful enough to cover both Tampa AND St. Pete. So there you go. As for running ads encouraging contraction, isn't CBS already kinda doing that by airing Yankee games? And hey, this is Stu's first year in charge. He's still got some cleaning up to do from what Vince left behind before he can really move forward with the franchise.

970 WFLA:

- Jack Harris will be forced into retirement.

- The Schnit Show will be cancelled.

- The Schit Show will be replaced by Shannon Burke from Orlando.

- That retarded gardening show will be cancelled.

Not a chance in hell.

US 103.5:

- Skip Mahaffey and Braedun Gunn will be forced to sign contract amendments requiring them to be polite and respectful to all co-workers and interns at all times. This will, of course, result in their almost immediate termination.

Okay, that ganja must really be kicking in now... ::)

98 Rock:

- Everyone associated with Bubba the Love Sponge and Cowhead will be blackballed from the Tampa Bay market, permanently.

- The regional directors for CC, CBS, Genesis, and Cox will all publicly agree to never air the incredibly offensive "Opie & Anthony Show" in the Tampa Bay market.

Haven't they already been "blackballed" per se?

860 WGUL:

- 860 WGUL will be shut down and their license will be surrendered back to the FCC.

1470 Sports Radio:

- Shut down and license surrendered.

WQYK FM:

- Chad Brock and Cletus T. Judd will be fired. Steve Austin & Rita Scicarillo will take over as the sole hosts of the morning show.

1250 WHNZ:

- Shut down and license surrendered.

Q105:

- The staff will begin taping Mason's off-air temper tantrums. He will be fired in six months and then his tantrums will be used as liners.

860 and 1470 aren't going away, though 1470 could use some semblance of an overhaul. And no, Brantley's not the answer for them. I actually agree with you on 99.5. 1250? Who's gonna air Lionel and Dr. Dean Edell, and how am I going to listen to the Devil Rays? And for Q105, I think Mason's act has worn thin, but that's just my opinion. He's widely respected and adored by this community. Again, another irresponsible and irrational statement.

I think you need to seriously re-assess what you're listening to before you make such remarks, which, by the way, were quite inflammatory even if they were tongue-in-cheek. It sounds like you have a serious axe to grind with somebody, I don't know if it's CC or not. But good grief, man, get a grip!!

i agree. iam going kicking and screaming but i have held out long enough hoping that radio would improve.

Anything to get Sileo off Tampa radio would be a sound for sore ears.

Possibly the worst talk show host of any kind, ever.

And, oh, before I forget, do we really need Ledge to host a program on the Animal from 7-10??

Anything to get Andrew Siciliano off Tampa radio would be a sound for sore ears.
