Howard Eskin's Got A Day Job Again

This will probably lead for bigger things for Eskin too. Eskin already does sideline reports during eagles games for the Eagles radio/tv network, so don't be surprised if he starts popping up on fox games when it isn't the A or B team covering them. Don Tollefson use to always be used for the eagles when he was still working for 29.

Was he forced out at WIP or did he decide to retire (although he's still on Sat 8-10A. What kind of ratings does that shift get?)

Officially he left WIP (daily) to move on and try new things. Unofficially his ratings were going down, Mike Miss was starting to beat him in key demos, WIP was making the big move to FM, to try and take on WPEN-FM & the midday guys were the more popular personalities of the station.

WIP let Eskin leave on his terms, and because of that Eskin is still apart of WIP, but had Eskin not want to leave he was gonna get bumped off anyway.

... nobody cares about sports anchors and longer... doesn't matter how big of a name.

The sports anchor in general is starting to be phased out of many newscasts in the 21st century.

I have met Eskin a couple of times over the decades and he has always been a gentleman in person. Therefore, I'm happy he has this new gig and I do remember when he started at the original Ten O'Clock News on 29.

Eskin's a local legend and I have always respected his talent in scooping the big story.

He's a gentleman in person, as long as you aren't working for or with him. My brief professional brushes with Eskin 20 years ago convinced me that he's one of the worst people to work with in Philadelphia.

Then how do you account for the fact that he's arguably the most successful and influential sports broadcaster in Philadelphia history, and has been for decades, while you're unknown. What professional brushes could you have had with him?

He's good at what he does, that's why. You don't have to be liked to be successful. I never said he wasn't a good broadcaster.

My brushes with him date to WIP's first experiment with FM simulcasting back in 1992.

Fwiw as an ex-NYC boy and then as an ex-Philadelphia boy -- and a non-talkradio person :

Always enjoyed his stuff -- TV or radio. It also didn't hurt that he sorta of reminded me of Wolf Blitzer or William Atherton (in Ghostbusters) throughout. All of them were non-photogenic, arrogant, wordy, and non-sequiturs in a world of pretty-face reporters ....... People whom some people make dartboards out of from their photographs, if not their personnae.

Swell to see he's making a living reprising his favorite role again. Go get 'em again.

Was that when they did 102.7 at the jersey shore? I can't believe it was that long ago.
