It's Harold Glunt, by the way. (Trust me, I'm the world's most experienced chronicler of the Glunt Story. ;) )

I don't know what the exact connection was between WGRP/WEXC (and WANR/Warren) and WCER. I know they were connected at some point, but I don't think Beacon ever actually owned WCER. WCER's operations guy, John Amrhein, is a regular here on this board, and perhaps he can flll in the blanks.

There's no connection at all these days.

From what I understand, the Christian formats never took off with listeners to WEXC and WGRP, and the almighty airforce network lasted for a little less than a year in 2002 (before my time at WCER). The connection is WCER's CEO/GM Jack Ambrozic, who was a shareholder in Beacon until the recent sale to Harold Glunt.

Where've ya been, my friend? :D

A while back, steel industry supplier Harold Glunt (Glunt Industries), who was once a minority shareholder in Beacon Broadcasting, filed to buy out Mr. Arch and when the transaction is completed, Mr. Glunt will own 100% of the company.

He's been very busy since then, moving to buy other stations (WLOA/1470 Farrell PA and WRTK/1540 Niles in specific) and launched the Christian rock format "Freq 107" on WEXC/107.1 Greenville PA, targetting Youngstown/Warren. 107.1's former "Wexy" oldies format has landed (name and all) on 1470, and now also on Beacon's WGRP/940 Greenville PA.

(Oh, for what it's worth, 1540 is now silent, though I don't know if that's long-term or weather related. 940 was silent until this week, and before that, carried the "Cool 101.7" oldies format out of WMVL/101.7 in the Meadville PA market.)

Click on my blog (linked in the sig file below) for all the Glunt You Care To Read.

Mr. Arch is still involved, but as sales manager for Glunt's operations.
