Howard Hughes and KLAS-TV

I was recently reminded of the odd situation that prevailed in Las Vegas TV when Howard Hughes was in his "reculse" years. He owned KLAS-TV Channel 8 there, and as he was often up all night due to insomnia, he would phone the engineers at the station to request that certain movies be threaded up and shown -- even if another movie was already in progress! He basically used the station as his personal movie theater. This must have been very confusing and annoying to the REST of KLAS' night owl viewers, who probably often got engrossed in a movie only to see it cut off prematurely because Howard wanted to watch something else! This brings to mind two questions:(1) Are there any older folks on the board who might have been in LV around that time and witnessed first-hand some of the odd last-minute programming changes on KLAS, and....(2) Has there ever been another TV station the owner of which exercised that much control over programming, that he could literally call the station at any time and have movies and such immediately changed at will?
