Howard Stern-How much longer will he stay?

I listen to Stern and some mornings; he sounds like he rather be somewhere else. Like his heart just not into the show anymore.

Howard is now in his 50s. I sure he thinks about retirement. I think he has enough money to retire. :D

I started wondering: how much longer will Stern broadcast before he decides to call it a day?

He has a long career that goes back to the mid to late 1970s. What does he have left to prove?

There are grumblings among his longtime fans that the show is not funny and/or shocking anymore.

Who would replace Howard once he does step down?

Discuss among yourselves.

I think he's setting himself up for negotiations. For the first time in his life, he is free from the corporate goobers that have attempted to stifle his creativity. I think he's truly happy...

Having said that...some fire in his belly to agitate isnt really there anymore.

I've only been listening 10/12 years but people been bitching the entire time that the show aint the same/funny/edgy as it was so take that crap with a large grain but imo he is winding down this time. it does seem like he is disengaging, the big thing is the marriage thing, like he wants to go hang out in the big house with Beth. only that guilt to keep people employed may lure him back.

personally I'd like to seem him scale down and do a midday interview goofing around show without all the trimmings like the tv show that sucks so much life out of the radio show.

Lets face it I subscribe for him, and I would rather have any kind of Howard than no Howard..., but it seems like every other week he's off, this week, it's the beginnings of how his "band" "The Losers" got started, i'm no expert, but that kind of seems like a reach to me...

What got him to where he is is that his life is somewhat an open book, to a degree, but in all honesty, and I am happy for him, but the whole wedding/marriage thing is boring to me...

I like the show when it's just him, Robin, Artie, Fred, and Gary just riffing on sh-t...I could do without the reliance on Sal, Richard and everybody else...they are hit and miss...

Since Howard's move to Sirius, his show is much more interesting. When he interviews celebrities, he asks the questions we want to know and can do it uncensored. Just listen to the interviews with Rosie and Martha Stewart. As far as Richard and Sal, you have to admit some of their prank calls are funny.

I also think Sirius would be stupid not to renew his contract, he made them what they are today. I know several XM subscribers who can't wait to hear him on XM. I think he will become bigger with Howard 100 on Sirius and Howard 100 on XM.

I also admire him for being loyal to his employee's / co-workers. Look how long they been with him. What would you think would happen to them Robin, Gary, and Fred if he were to leave Sirius. Artie can do well on his own. Richard and Sal can do a morning show on a terrestrial radio station in Kansas.

It's not an easy thing to drag your butt into work every day when you arn't motivated. He's already got more money than he'll ever need. He's already done 30 years of Radio. He has had mutiple TV shows. He's had a hit Movie. He's written two of the fastest selling books in publishing history. There honestly is nothing left to prove. He's done it all. Now he has a hot girlfriend that he will soon marry and they'll live in their mansion on Long Island. Nothing wrong with that. Howard has had a pretty good life. Now he probably wants to take it easy for a while. However I still believe he'll have a career after Sirius. But my guess is he'll take a few years off. Then when he gets bored enough he'll return to the air in some form.

Speculation seems to be that Uncle Mel is going to be on the warpath, cutting costs now that the two companies have merged.

Do you really think Stern will be offered the windfall he got to come to Sirius? And if his offer is greatly scaled back, what is his incentive to stay?

Whenever this contract ends, he may decide to hang it up. After all, he's had a pretty good run, as Skynet has noted.

Listen, kiddies, with Howard, this is what it is in a NUTSHELL -- after the merger is COMPLETE, if Mel K. offers him the BIG BUCKS, baby - Howard WILL STAY, NO MATTER WHAT!! You can take that to the bank and book it!! Howard wants to be Howard, and even HE realizes that if he ever goes back to terrestrial radio, he will NOT have the freedoms that he has at Sirius...

I blame Mel and Howard for this entire Sirius-XM mess. If Mel hadn't offered such outrageous offers to get Howard, XM would not have had to counter, and both would have been better off and closer to breaking even. Now that Mel got his way with the merger, they have to cut costs to survive, and Howard could be the first to go. There only goal now is to be marginally better than terrestial radio, and that isn't much of a challange. If satalite radio fails, it will because they made bad management decisions.

yeah, sometimes it seems like howard makes robin rush through her news. i dont know about you guys, but its a must for me to hear robins news! other than that, less of richard and sal would be nice.

Mel is no dummy. He could have an escape clause in Howard's contract. Maybe this was his plan all along?

Mel is also smart enough to realize that Howard is one of the few programs on either service with an appreciable audience. I would guess that Howard will remain on board as long as he desires to.

Who is he going to agitate against when management and the FCC let him do whatever he wants? The conflict with those forces was a large part of his old act and now, well it's hard to be a rebel when there's no one to rebel against. Plus that conflict used to get him lots of attention in other media but now the only time they pay attention to Howard is when he does something so very Entertainment Tonight such as getting married. Howard seems to have a bit of an ego and despite the money, it would seem the relative obscurity of satellite radio has to be a bit troublesome. Getting his "freedom" translated into more money, but less fame. Freedom's just another word for nothing left to do?

Howard's big issue: Supposedly $200 MILLION of the $500 mil was in Sirius stock at about $3 a share. With Sirius down to 30 cents the 200 mil is now about 19 million. This could potentially be a serious sticking point.

I may be wrong about this but I thought I read he sold it to turn it into cash immediately or he sold most of it.

Edit:

I found this article, he did dump most of it.
