Howard Stern Show beyond 2010???

Just wanted to get a discussion started if Mr.Stern resigns a new contract with Sirius or leaves Sirius?
I listen to his show on and off. Some days it is entertaining other days Howard sounds like he is bored.
I remember in 2000 when contract with Infinity(now CBS Radio)was about expire,Howard was talking about not resigning.
There also the situation if Artie Lange will return or not after his recent suicide attempt.
What would Robin,Fred,Gary and rest of the crew do if Howard calls it a day?

I think Howard is loyal to his staff and to Uncle Mel and because of this, he is going to stay with Sirius. He may not continue with a morning show, but in the long run he will remain with Sirius.

Howard's not going anywhere. Everytime his contract is almost up he goes through this same crap about leaving. Trust me. He's not leaving.

There is a You Tube video with Howard Stern when he had just arrived on NYC radio about 20 years ago. Even in that WNBC interview, he was saying this would be his last radio contract and he would find something else for his talents when the contract ends.

Howard is still only in his 50s. I doubt Howard is going to want to retire and hang around the apartment all day, bugging his 30-something wife.

My one fear is that he keeps hinting at putting his show on the internet and keeping nearly all the profits for himself. We are moving closer to the day when most homes and cars will have wifi internet service, which would sort of make Sirius/XM's satellite delivery of music, news and talk radio obsolete.

When Howard talks about leaving Sirius/XM and putting his show on the internet, he quickly adds that he's loyal to Sirius/XM CEO Mel Karmazin and wouldn't do that. But just hinting at it concerns me. I wouldn't want to have to subscribe to Sirius/XM for music and other talk shows while paying a separate fee for Howard on the internet.

He made some crypitc messages this week embedded in some jokes about their customer Service in India telling people that Howard isn't going anywhere. Howard then did an impression of a guy from India and made his own commentary.

Howard with thick accent says:
Howard isn't going anywhere. Where can he go? He can't move to internet. Internet isn't ready for him. Servers would crash. He won't go back to Terrestrial. Sirius will just pay him less money and he'll have to stay. Howard is between a rock and a hard place.

Now Howard made this sound like a joke. However I believe it to be based on truth.

I haven't listened to Howard in almost 10 years, but the old "this is my last contract" thing is old hat, as has been pointed out.

Howie isn't going anywhere, because no one will give him the money that Sirius will. He won't get $500 million again, but he'll get a nice paycheck nonetheless.

I've learned that nothing stays the same forever. So I'll throw this out to you:

Imagine both Mel & Howard leaving Sirius to start an all-new venture. One that isn't burdened with the Sirius debt. One that is multi-platform. One that gives Howard more ways to reach his audience. And one that gives Mel a chance to revive his image.

I'm sure Mel is concerned about reviving his image. But take a look at Sirius/XM stock over the last couple of months. Now that new car sales are increasing, so automatically are Sirius/XM subscriptions. (You get a free trial subscription when you buy many models of new cars.)

I also heard Stern doing the fake Indian accent. Apparently a caller told him that when he recently called customer service to cancel, saying Howard will be leaving soon, there's a script in the computer for the customer service rep to say that isn't true. Howard took that and expanded it.

But I hope that's right. We are not yet to the point where cars commonly have wifi internet service. And if you can't listen to Howard in your car live, Howard can't leave Sirius/XM for an internet-based pay service yet. My brother has a radio in his truck where he can plug his i-pod in, so if he wanted, he could load Stern's show into his i-pod and listen later in his vehicle. But it wouldn't be live.
