Howard Stern To Replace Simon Cowell On "American Idol"?

I figure adding Stern would make complete the show's jump off the shark and into the pier. The family values crowd (e.g. my family) already objected to the addition of Ellen DeGeneres.

The scary thing here is, it's American Idol, not American Playboy Idol!
Sorry, but Stern is forever thought of as exactly that.
Add Stern to Idol and I'm gone.
I hope ratings crash with him like his Saturday night talk show did...ya know....the one that tried to compete with Saturday night live!

Sadly ... most people who don't like Stern are just like you. They don't listen to his show because of what others say about him. How about YOU try listening to him yourself so that you can form your own opinion.

I love these people who are against Stern and they don't even know why.

Reminds me of an interview with Jerry Falwell, the family values guy.
He was asked, "when did you choose to be heterosexual ?" Stopped him cold!
CLASSIC :)

Back on track, I think Stern would be great.

Nothing short of a panel of Johnny Carson, Bob Hope and George Gobel could make me watch that awful show.

I wouldnt get sucked into this pile of garbage... it's a stunt. Howards contract talks are coming up and he and Simon are "buddies" ...
I don't think Stern is even a player anymore... has been on his way out... Say "Goodnight" Howard~!

The fact that Simon and Howard are buddies should not be a factor in that Simon is leaving "Idol" of his own free will to launch a new show in America. I also doubt that Howard is trying to leverage Sirius-XM as he is smart enough to see the writing on the wall. There is, given the current economy, not much likelihood that he could get a comparable deal to his original contract with Satellite. Ditto for terrestrial radio, even if Clear Channel took the chance they are on shaky financial ground as well.

Contrary to what some previous posters here have suggested, he would be a perfect fit with the addition of Ellen DeGeneres. I might even watch just to see that combination. Stern is quite capable of doing an acceptable performance for TV and those who don't like him have probably never listened to or seen him on TV. He made his fortune doing Junior High locker room humor but he is getting a little old to carry that off and I think he wants to go out more gracefully than Imus who has stayed on far too long and looks like an animated mummy. This could be a good transition to some form of retirement for Howard and I am sure he will be paid well if he does do it.

Howard's not going anywhere. He hates to travel. These days he is even frightened to fly. There is no way he is going to keep flying out to Los Angeles to tape "IDOL". He was entertaining the idea of how fun it would be to be completely honest with all the contestants and telling them how much they suck. But it's not a job that he is actually seriously considering.

There seems to be some flame showing through all of the smoke now. One place I read that he would not do a radio show if he took the Idol job, but radio can be done anywhere. A lot of people I know have their own studios in their houses and do shows on stations halfway across the country. Maybe Howard would like the warmer California climate over the New York winters. In any event it is all speculation until contracts are signed but it is beginning, in my mind, to seem as though this is more than rumor or a negotiating strategy.

As I said above, Howard is getting to an age where he realizes that he needs to hang up the headphones. He has often said that he does not want to be like Imus, old, dried up and boring. I don't think he wants to be like Larry King either so he might do Idol for a while then ride off into the sunset. He also likes being a producer, he loved doing "Son Of The Beach" a few years back and that would be easier if he were already in Hollywood, plus he has options on some movie projects like a remake or update of "Porky's".

Yeah, right now he's middle-aged, dried up and boring.

American Idol has always been a Family Oriented Program. Sure, Simon can be a bit negative at times but Paula was always a nice balance and some of the other people neutralize Simon's cantankerous nature.

Adding Stern to the mix would be like serving Hot Dogs at a Fine Restaurant or like putting a toilet in the middle of the dining room at the White House or like giving your fiancee to be, a Chinese made, Cadmium laced Ring.

Well, at one point, he did have a rest stop named after him on the New Jersey Turnpike, so just as well... :D

I did listen to him a few times years ago when he was on real radio. I didn't like him then and went back to Imus.

I can accept that having listened to Howard that you might not like him. However IMUS? There are so many better choices that your statement boggles my mind. Imus is old, boring, out of touch and totally irrelevant which begs the question as to why FOX Business Network chose to hire him. On RFD TV he was a standout in a sea of ancient reruns and not very well produced new shows but on FOX Business he is the pile of dog poop that everyone tries to ignore as they step around or over it.

I think the Howard is talented and smart enough to reinvent his on air persona to fit the situation, should he become a part of idol. He did not get to his success level without some kind of business smarts.
