Howard Stern

It's a shame that a talent as good as Howard was on the air was got lazy.

If I was running the operation I would find a podcaster a host that uses profanity for a whole lot less money.

I give Howard credit. He obviously realized that he got all the mileage he could out of the whole shock jock thing, and saw people becoming bored with it. That, and it gets kinda creepy from a 70 year-old man. So, he reinvented himself by putting more emphasis on something he was already good at - interviewing. The approach obviously gave him a newer challenge, and he's doing well with it.

Obviously, he's slowly winding down the show, which makes sense because he's been doing it for so long. I wouldn't call it lazy, because he's put so much hard work in for so many years. If he wants to slow down, let him. He's earned it.

Yes, Howard takes an enormous amount of time off and never works full weeks. But I still find his content as witty, funny, relevant, and engaging as ever. I think the problem that many people have with him is political. A big chunk of his audience always leaned right, but with Howard "coming out" as left of center, he's lost support and listeners. It's too bad, because Howard is still one of the best.

Howard still considers himself more conservative. Just hates Trump.

Listening to his show this week I think he renews.

He does consider himself woke, pro-vaccine, and pro-trans rights. Howard has definitely evolved over the years. While I like it, much of his audience doesn't.

I tried listening a few months ago. He was talking to someone on his crew who has a "nervous cough". All you could hear is this guy coughing into the mic every 3 seconds while Howard was talking to him. I don't know how anyone can listen to that without immediately changing stations.

It's pretty clear that he doesn't work much. I spent a week listening on my way to and from work and heard the same interview/segment numerous times. Haven't listened since hearing the guy coughing. I've found myself listening to Conan's channel more and more. He's not live but has good interviews and guests on his podcast.

Well, I'm going to defend Stern. He rarely talks about politics. Doesn't avoid it but it is often not mentioned in a 3+ hour show, maybe not even in a given week.

Stern does 100 shows a year. That's about 325 hours of content. If you commute 45 minutes to work each way, 48 weeks a year, that's more content than you could listen to. Are people upset that Stern is not doing a show while they're NOT listening? He should be talking while you're still asleep or already on the job? It's simple. If he's in a repeat you have already heard, go to the app and listen to something you haven't heard yet.

I'm not sure any of our favorite entertainers were exactly the same through the arc of their careers. Was Johnny Carson or David Letterman exactly the same in their later years as they were in their early years? I'm not going to say one era was better than another. Once we know we like them, they don't have to keep doing Carnac the Magnificent or Stupid Pet Tricks that frequently for us to tune in.

His contract is up at the end of the year and S/XM has the rights to his audio library for the next several, so he's not going anywhere. At this point, it's either S/XM or retirement.
Everybody thought he was leaving at the end of his last contract and then they work out a very Howard friendly contract. That could easily happen again.

Howard isn't going to retire, he only works three days a week anyway.

He would retire, get bored and upset that he can’t vent on the air and be back.
I think if Robin retired or wasn’t able to do the show any more, Howard might retire permanently. Did you know he paints? He did an interview about painting:
