The Washington Post reports:

Shock Jock's Audience Is Beating Him to the Door

The Howard Stern exodus has begun. Unfortunately for Stern, it's his audience that's leaving, not him.

The shock jock won't jump to satellite radio until January, but in the meantime, his listeners in the Washington area seem to be heading for the exits. Stern's nationally syndicated morning program, which is heard locally on WJFK-FM (106.7), suffered a dramatic fall in the summer audience ratings, which in turn helped drag down WJFK's overall popularity....

Other key points:
Howard down 1/3 in DC in the money demos.
Howard down 15% overall in New York.
Howard's DC station drops from 5th to 8th place during daytime. Numbers for other dayparts stayed constant or up slightly.

And AAR in DC "went from bad to nonexistent." WWRC now an asterix, rather than a fraction.

"So it's no surprise that Michael Hughes, the executive who oversees WJFK and other Infinity-owned stations in Washington, wasn't surprised by the cratering of Stern's audience. "His focus has shifted," Hughes said yesterday, "and the listeners have picked up on that." Of Stern's editorial approach, Hughes commented, "I can't begin to understand his motivation."

I don't know either Michael but here's a guess: He hates you, and all of Infinity. Also, he is hoping that if the ratings get low enough, you'll let him out of the remainder of his contract.
______________

That's rather childish considering that if it weren't for Infinity and Karmazon he wouldn't have a career following his firing from WNBC.

Well, he is childish in my opinion but he only started hating Infinity after Karmazin left Infinity. Mel is of course the head of Sirius now. Whether or not he would have a career without Infinity is questionable. It's like saying Julia Roberts wouldn't have a career without Touchstone Pictures.
______________
