Although certain people think I wouldn't be able to program a 2500 watt day/80 watt night AM station in Plantsville, CT here is how I'd program WKRO AM 680. WRKO AM 680. 49 Hours of Local Programming Per Week. No Infomercials. No Relgious Stuff.
______________

But you don't have the critical info of who's on morning and afternoons. I'll give you credit for putting that together, but Joe Scarborough and Clark Howard?

From what I can see, it only assures that YOU would listen. Remember, you are programming a station so the MOST people tune in...and STAY for as long a time as possible.

You take away one of the most sucessful overnight shows "Coast to Coast AM" and replace it with.....Joey Reynolds? What logic is that?

No religious stuff....but 2 hours of Gay/Lesbian news?

I've said it before...I guess I have to say it again, Everybody's a PD, and an armchair one at that! So you're in good company. LOL... (no offense intended, just pokin fun)

As far as some of the network stuff, what you have to remember is that the show cannot already be clearing on another station. If it is, the network will either decline, or ask the current station if they mind. The only way to beat that is to be the bigger fish. If you have a stick the network wants, then you might win. Also, don't forget the Laura Ingraham debacle I had. Since the bigger company had her on a bigger station in a bigger market, I lost, even though I was first to sign for her!

You keep programming though, practice makes perfect.
______________

First, though I agree with some of the sentiments regarding this exercise, I respect the passion that went into it. As both a talk host and listener, I think it's pretty damn good. The only thing I'd do is flip the Teen and gay shows...kids are out in the afternoon, especially in summer. The show would pull better if it ran while most teens are home to listen and call in. As far as you choice of network hosts, it doesn't thrill me, but you can't please everyone all the time, right? :)

I'm with ya on the Rollye James. Fun trivia on Friday nights.
I heard some Glenn Beck while in Memphis (and yes, I know he's
on the WGIR stations) and he was pretty good whether it was
playing "Jeopo-retardy" or talking about the Court, and so on.

Phil Hendrie.
Howie Carr.

As for me, give me a station with half decent 12+ ratings like 'RKO and I'll
plow it into the ground in no time! :)

Ah, memories: A program director named Andy Travis is hired at an elevator
music station in Cincinnatti. He abruptly changes the format to raucous
rock'n'roll, as DJ Johnny Caravella drags a needle across a turntable
(remember those?) and re-dubs himself Dr. Johnny Fever!

The general manager's mom, Mrs. Carlson, who owns the station arrives and tells him: "Young man, this radio station is a business. It is not here for your
personal listening pleasure."

Andy replies, "Ma'am, I know it's a business, and that's why I had no
choice but to change the format"

So! Yes, if you change things enough to please yourself that's one thing but if your aim is to attract as many listeners as possible, that's something else.
Perhaps the rock that Andy brought to WKRP is pleasing to him AND the listeners alike. That's the true test!
