Howie/25 linkup, and live from Florida...

Once Howie gets that 96.9 FM talk gig:
--he'd be on same exact time as Fox25 Morning News. They could put a camera in the WTKK
studios and have Howie and VB banter for a few moments a couple times per show...WRKO already
had a relationship with 25 where David Wade or Maria Stephanos would be linked up to talk
with Howie and do a promo for the news.

--don't be too surprised if Howie moves to Florida and does the show via ISDN line.

Moving to Florida won't work. That reminds me of that fool news guy, Gary Lapierre, on WBZ, who 'pretended' he was in Boston ('Boy...it's COLD out there this morning!') while doing his winter newscasts from FLORIDA! A major fraud, he was.

If Howie goes to Florida it won't be a fraudulent move like Lapierre tried to do. But he will lose touch with Boston and Massachusetts politics by doing so. And that's Howie's bread & butter. He needs to stay connected, and that means staying local.

Now that was a story that absolutely nobody but anal retentive get-a-lifers cared about, since LaPierre was an anchor, not a field reporter, and could have anchored the news from Reno and it wouldn't have mattered. In fact, nobody could even tell the difference until a competitor reported it. I assume you don't like Accuweather either, since how would somebody in State College, PA, possibly know what the temperature is in Boston ?

As for being that 'fool news guy', as the sales manager for a television station mentioned to me in the early 80s, LaPierre was 'the best blue collar radio news guy in America' and I haven't seen or heard much since then to change my mind (although Rod Fritz would be a close second, in my opinion.) You were probably offended by those 18 avails per hour which were usually filled. The station management wasn't. That's what you're supposed to do with them.

TSB

Howie has done shows by ISDN line before. For awhile he was doing Saturdays 9-noon PT on KFI 640
Los Angeles, "More Stimulating Talk Radio" via ISDN line from here.

a) why would anyone give free promotion to another local media outlet in the same timeslot?
the relationship is a paid plug for the 10pm newscast.

b) you were too busy exchanging wrko stories with casa. as of monday, david wade is no longer fox25 employee.

c) howie loves the herald gig. he wouldn't be able to do it from florida. he'd have to give it up and he's not quite ready to do that.

Howie gave up the Herald gig years ago. He's going through the motions and can mail it in.
Cut and paste the Chump Line like he usually does...

chump line days/weeks are numbered. entercom owns the intellectual property on it so he'll have to go with a different tag on fm if he wants to continue with this nonsense....

David Wade is no longer with Ch. 25. Going to Ch. 4

Wait just a minute. You are the same guy who tries to pass himself off as just a stock investor and not one in the business or one who was in the business. Who is not forthcoming???

Casablanca, there was a stock investor who called himself "Pug Ugly". When he knew that I figured out who he was he "vanished". Could TSBench be the reincarnation of "Pug Ugly"?

Does Entercom own "The Chump Line" name? Kind of like NBC claiming they owned Letterman's TOP 10?

They took Larry "Bud" Melman's name away from the late Calvert Deforest, a guest of Visual radio.

We let him use either name! :)

Wait just a minute.

Okay, but just until the pizza is ready. By the way, have you tried Freschetta's new Portabella Mushrooms & Spinach? Might be the best bake-it-yourself pizza ever.

You are the same guy who tries to pass himself off as just a stock investor

Ooops. Actually, I was throwing out an almost verbatim, and I though unmistakable, line from one of the most famous, and possibly the best, movies ever made. Check with Raccoon (who I understand is a movie aficionado), and he'll tell you which one. Didn't mean to be too subtle.

and not one in the business or one who was in the business.

Ummm....nope, I'm the guy who spent 25 years in the radio biz and has mentioned it many times on these boards, including a number of them specifically mentioning my time at Group W.

Who is not forthcoming???

Is this like an extra credit question? Okay, I give up. Who?

>>He's going through the motions and can mail it in.

for someone who's mailing it in, he gets great ratings. I'd like to see the kind of ratings he
got if he didn't mail it in.
also btw am not the great movie expert you might think I am but I do call in to Movie Night
on WBZ. The last movie I saw was a comedy about a rat. No, no, not "Sicko"... :)

>>david wade is no longer fox25 employee.

yeah I saw that in the paper AFTER I typed it. I did post that the Track gals said Wade was
on his way out (but perhaps to Ch 4) a month ago...see New Eng TV board

I was misinformed.

As an apparent non-fan of Mr Moore, I assume you'll be glad to know that his latest opus is on track to lose something north of 20 mil for Lions Gate. Pretty impressive for a flick with a 9 mil production budget.

I don't believe that's the case, as I recall it on the WHDH-AM version of Howie's show. He had freely admitted getting the idea from voicemails Stern played on his show ages ago.
