Howie Carr column: RIP Big Mattress, WBCN

http://bostonherald.com/news/columnists/view.bg?articleid=1185782&format=text

>>Duane Ingalls Glasscock was the first radio show I ever got involved in, which I’ll explain in a moment. But first I want to say goodbye to Duane’s flagship, WBCN [website], the Rock of Boston, which as you know is going off the air next month....

Note: there is also a photo gallery of WBCN in its heyday. Hey, I remember the press release "trying to explain D.I. Glasscock" because in high school I had to write to a radio station for its press kit and do a report on them or something...I remember that page.

And we all thought it was Jerry Williams who gave Howie his desire to be in radio, who knew it was Charles and Howies desire for graft from advertisers. I guess he took the lesson well because he had a car from a dealership that bought time at Entercom for a while (remember when he was locked out they took the car away) the vision correction surgery was a freebie, and let's not forget the food deliveries that seem to happen on a daily basis.

Being that Charles is an unabashed liberal, I wonder how he feels about giving Howie the inspiration to be in the business?

Of course Howie's graft is for a private employer not the government... I remember the deal with the car and he indeed has disclosed some of the other freebies, etc. Hey, you don't think Sean Hannity actually has to pull out his wallet when he stops at Ruth's Chris Steak House? "Do you know who I am" :)

btw someone, I think it was Billy West, used to go on Chuck's show lampooning a famed talk host,
whom they called (the character) "Jerry Swillums"

I guess this just shows that humor triumphs politics. It's the great leveler. I'm not a big fan of Howie "The Pitbull" Carr myself but thought the article was a nice gesture.
