howie carr invades...Stop & Shop

Stop & Shop Woburn. I might not live up there anymore, but I still go to that town.

Paperbacks of the Bulger/Carr book. Hundreds of them. Many with stickers "autographed by the author".
Is that what they call him thesedays? Does Boy Howie (not Boy Howdy) have writer's cramp? Signing books
no one will buy unless they need extra firewood this Christmas. How did he get this placement? Barter?

I met Mr. Carr at The Paper Store in Beverly and he's a very nice man. (Met him before at a gas station
WRKO remote in Saugus.) He signed my copy of TBB which I'd
pre-ordered from Amazon.

Once I was up in VT and there were several copies of "The Little Red Sox Book" (I think that was the title)
by Bill "Spaceman" Lee, autographed by the author, at the Borders in Burlington. He had been up there for
a signing (think he lives in southern VT..Cavendish? Coventry) Hey Mr Spaceman...

RIP Ruth Brown, Mama he Treats Your Daughter Mean (& also played Motormouth Maybelle in Hairspray)

THE WOBURN CONNECTION: I saw the movie Talk Radio at the Showcase in Woburn. The film's star &
co-writer, Eric Bogosian, a Woburn native IIRC. From IMDB: "Trivia: In his research for the film version, actor Eric Bogosian often watched the on-air production of Tom Leykis' talk show, then originating from Los Angeles station KFI. Bogosian's fictional character in the film shares many speech patterns and mannerisms with real-life talker Leykis." (No I won't make a Duraflame joke here...)

Ruth Brown was a friend of Bobby Hebb's. I phoned Bobby with the news; he met with her in NY recently,
though she lived in Vegas. I think they both promoted the Grammy winning "Night Train To Nashville" on a
NY radio station (have an aircheck somewhere here...) as they are both on it.

Bill Lee

During this last baseball season, Bill Lee had a weekly call-in with Loren and Wally on WROR/Boston on Monday mornings. Very funny guy.
