HOWIE CARR TO RETURN TO WRKO ON THURSDAY AT 3

C

Casablanca

Guest
According to Avi Nelson who has been filling in for the vacationing Howie Carr, Carr will return from vacation on Thursday to host his own program.

My guess is that his lawyers will advise him to say nothing and let them do all the work behind the curtain.

How can you 'say nothing' when you host your own call-in show? How many callers will want to talk about this? One in ten? How 'bout 11 out of 10! EVERYONE will want to talk with him about this. You mean the screener is going to hang up on pretty much everyone when they admit what they want to talk about? I'd rather he get it all straightened out and THEN come back to the microphone. This is a train wreck on Thursday if indeed Howie will be told not to address the topic with his callers. That's like jumping into a pool and expecting to stay dry.

I've only spoken on-air with him twice in all these years...we'll call Thursday and ask about the lawsuit.

"Mr. Carr, how can you sue the company you are employed by and have the audacity to go on the air?"

should be fun! :)

Probably by not saying anything on that topic. Which I'm sure his attorney has also advised.

Well, they better exchange phone numbers and call one another, since I get the feeling that this isn't going to be a topic on Howie's program.

In a word, yes, or hit the delay button if somebody sneaks through and tries to get cute.
Call screeners / board ops will hang up or bleep those they are told to hang up on or bleep. Difficult concept to understand, but there it is. That is what call screeners are paid to do. I would guess that the number of call screeners prepared to get fired to keep you happy could probably be counted on the fingers of one foot.

If Howie, and/or the producers or call screeners, are told to keep Howie out of the pool, he'll stay out of the pool. I'm sure Entercom's lawyers are pretty up to date on all the things CBS did to screw themselves in the Stern lawsuit and aren't about to let WRKO go down the same road. And, yes, even if it means losing you to your iPod.

are you saying greater media will be able purchase all those classic 'death pool', 'elderly drivers horror stories' and 'kennedy's ah-ah contests' tapes from entercom for the mere two million bucks? i sure hope howie can start plugging fm talk on his wrko show tomorrow. i want to make sure all those tapes are part of the settlement.....i am sure jason and julie will even be happy to spring for the courier service from brighton to dorchester....

Howie should start the program by saying at the advice of his lawyer he will not be discussing the situation and then state it again at the top of every hour.

That won't stop nitwits from trying to talk about it though. I wonder how long the delay will be set for tomorrow? We could be hearing a lot of dead air.

Entercom should be so lucky.

As you obviously know, I was referring to CBS undermining itself in the the breach of contract suit against Stern because they allowed him to tout his move to Sirius for months on their air, did nothing to prevent it, and then decided to sue him after the fact. Not good. Not smart. Blew them right out of the water.

"Blew them out of the water"?

The settlemnent was sealed and both parties agreed not to reveal the settlement.

I'm not sure how it "blew them out of the water"....

Wed.'s Herald quoted Howie as saying he won't muzzle himself.

>>"Entercom is willing to negotiate my contract - as long as the bottom line means keeping me as a virtual indentured servant," Carr said in a statement today. "My lawyer suggested I not talk about this. What does he think, I might say something controversial?"

>>have the audacity to go on the air?"

Because they're paying him to do so--and they suddenly 'want him'...
There was no chumpline on Tue and calls about the contract situation
were deleted when it was run on Wed.

He may have to do a "no comment" or only a brief comment, just like Tom Leykis
wasn't allowed to discuss the battery-on-his-wife situation back in '94 or so....

I have talked to Howie in person twice: gas station opening in Saugus, and last
yr at The Paper Store in Beverly where he autographed my copy of Bros. Bulger.

Radio Eq.: "While it's being reported that Howie Carr is set to resume his WRKO program tomorrow (Thursday) at 3pm, it might be best to pencil that into the station's schedule. We're hearing that a major showdown is set for first thing in the morning between Howie's camp and the Empress/Coffee Boy regime."

You're a Carr groupie, Raccoon

I'm a Carr critic.

methinks WRKO told Avi Nelson to say Howie would be returning.

It will be interesting to hear him on the air with his pending suit against the station.

The result is a lot of pretty much positive press for Carr (except for the Phoenix and our postings) and
a slippery slope downside for RKO

Will WRCN pick up Howie's show today. And can WRKO bleep-out what goes on WRCN?

I've always wanted SOMEONE to sue WRKO, who woulda ever thought it would be Howie Carr.

Problem is, we wanted someone to sue WRKO for putting Howie Carr on the air!

My my...

Genya Ravan had T shirts at POLISH RECORDS in 1980 at the Musexpo in Florida (how old AM I?)

"Who do I F... to get off this label."

Howie can steal it and say "Janet Jeghelian, who do we have to F... to get out of this radio station"
