Howie Carr vs. Entercom--Is There A Lawyer In The House?

MRBIboredop said:
in the 6+ PPM's 96.9 is beating WRKO

Not in that daypart they're not. WRKO is tied for 10th and WTKK is 17th (6+ demo). In the typical talk-radio demo (55+), same daypart, WRKO is 2nd, WTKK is tied for 8th.

Howie continues to bash MA judges for the '07 decisions, on air, and lately has been playing up on RKO's weaker signal (for some) after dark. "Until I get on a real radio station," he said on air, and in today's column about the arrest of an allegedly drunk judge in Northhampton, where he invites him to call in:
"I wish I could offer you a forum that people could hear after dark..."

(though I think Howie is on WHYN out there anyway)

Carr keeps talking about how you can't hear WRKO west of Kenmore Sq at night. I think he knows he's lying. For proof that he is either lying, doesn't know what he's talking about, or is trying to listen in a pathologically polluted RF environment, check out the V-Soft signal strength by Zip code Web site at http://zipsignal.v-soft.com/. Enter the Zip of interest, then scroll past all of the FM stations to reach the AMs. I used 02215 as a surrogate for Kenmore Sq, 02134 (Allston) for a place slightly west of Kenmore Sq, and 02494 (Needham) as a place moderately west of Kenmore Sq. As you would expect, of those three Zip codes, WRKO does the worst in Needham, but the signal is still very strong, even at night: 22.98 mV/m, which is way more than what the FCC calls a minimum city-grade AM signal (5 mV/m). In the other Zips, WRKO's signal is monstrous--pushing 100 mV/m.

Doesn't Carr live in Welleley? WRKO's signal strength there (in Zip 02481) at night is listed as 14.85 mV/m--almost three times the FCC city-grade minimum for AM. Maybe Entercom should send an engineer to Carr's house to look for and remove sources of interference, such as lamp dimmers and non-conforming PC power supplies. And while he's at it, that Entercom engineer might check out Carr's expensive cars for improperly performing ignition systems. Something is really wrong with either his radios or the RF environment if he can't pick up a 15 mV/m AM signal on even a very cheap radio.

Has anyone noticed his live reads for the "be the next WRKO political blogger" contest?

The first time I heard it it was a riot " we have a political blogger?"

when he gets to the part where he is supposed to read his name as one of the judges, he reads the copy as written "judged by me, talent name"

.....Howie continues to bash MA judges for the '07 decisions, on air, and lately has been playing up on RKO's weaker signal (for some) after dark. "Until I get on a real radio station," .....

How many electrons must die agonizing deaths, and how much ink must be spilled, just because Carr didn't understand the contract he had signed.

There is a lesson to be learned from this whole kerfluffle....if you make Howie look stupid, stand by for heavy weather.

Regards,
TSB

He's exaggerating the weakness of the signal, by saying you can't get it west of Kenmore Sq.
However I do remember one Mon. holiday, Martin Luther King Jr Day I think, when Howie was
mostly pre-empted by the Celts who had a 3 pm game and were on RKO at the time. I was out for
a drive NW of Boston and could pick him up on what was then WEIM 1280 at the time, but as I
headed toward Boston (destined to see Morgan White Jr's trivia) I lost 'EIM and had a very tough
time picking up RKO (I don't think CRN was aboard at the time)

Carr's expensive cars are provided for him in exchange for promotional consideration, as they
say on the Price is Right. When the ad buy ends, the car goes away, I believe.

Howie does still insist he thinks he's right and the judges are wrong...FWIW.

During his contract dispute, they took the sponsor provided car away from him.

I wonder if he is following the IRS rules and declaring the value of the vehicle ( 360 a month) as income on his tax returns?
