Howie Carr's replacement

I've heard Howie is losing his syndication deal, which affects WTPL, WNTK, and WKBK in NH. I know he has affiliates in Burlington and Portland, and I'm sure a bunch more I don't know about. I've heard from multiple people WKBK Keene will go local, but anyone have an idea on what other stations will replace him with?

Do you suppose Howie could do a "pirate broadcast" from an undisclosed location in Munjoy Hill, Maine? ???

Interesting. Don't you think he would try and get another service to pick him up or buy satellite time himself? I can't see him giving up that easily.

Wasn't he self-syndicated up until a couple years ago?

Yes, he was.

Howie Carr is not leaving WGAN in Portland; however, I hear that Clear Channel dropped him from WVOM in Bangor. My understanding is that his syndicator is asking a lot more from affiliates... Howie is well-sold in Portland, so WGAN can afford the increase. I guess Clear Channel opted to save money since they're selling the station. Shocker. ;D

His only other affiliate in Maine is WEGP in Presque Isle. Dunno what's happening there.

I'm surprised that VOM is dropping him if in fact that is true. Howie has been the ratings leader for VOM for years, and has drawn extremely well when visiting Bangor and quite a few callers from the area!

Agreed... I was surprised to hear it. But I heard it from a pretty reliable source.

WKBK replaced Howie with a local host who used to be on in the mornings, and Beck was picked up
for mornings. It was said that WVOM (Howland/Augusta) dropped him awhile back but they must not have
updated their webpage...
Howie's affiliate list on his site lists WCRN but not WVMT, and they still list WVOM and WKBK...but 'KBK just dropped him a week or so back

Yesterday there were a lot of phone calls from Bangor.Howie was discussing the new No Smoking in the car ordinance. So he must still be on WVOM.

They probably will replace him with Sean Hannity who is on at night and then replace Hannity with Lars Larson who used to be on before.

WKBK hasn't dropped Howie yet. He was on this afternoon and I hear he should be there at least another week.

...for Howie's slot? I know I'm hearing something about a syndie deal ending...

This is bad news for Howie fans in Burl VT and also up in Montreal (two semi-regular callers
are Montrealers, Walter, who's on Howie's side, and Steve, who isn't...)

Where is news on WVMT changes...in Burl Free Press? On their site? (may check that now...)

Yes he was just talking about it. he's being dropped by WVMT --what he was just talking about, I think, is the possibilty of another station picking him up. Maybe the
"Zone" up there (WEAV 960, WXZO 96.7)

So much for two of Howie's semi-regular callers from Montreal, liberal Steve and conservative Wally.
"It has nothing to do with WVMT, or the owner of the station,
or with me...most of the stations we will still be on. It's a complicated situation and I'm sorry to be losing you listeners in Montreal..."

Steve: "Why would you leave us Howie?"

"Can I explain it to the listeners of WVMT? Look, I don't want to lose you...If we can get the thing straightened out in a couple months..." (maybe WXZO/WEAV?)

"Last time you tortured us with the Irish propagandist (Hannity)" (WVMT dropped Howie for Hannity awhile back)

adios WVMT...sorry, Steve and Wally...Also Howie said, "Want to know how much money I make
from the syndication?" (sound of crickets was played)...Who knows, maybe WVMT found Doyle even
cheaper to run, plus he's a national name & up and coming

Supposedly Howie may be back...a post on boston-radio-interest says that the Doyle show may be short-lived.
Some kind of dispute over rights fees...?
