Howie: "I have 4 and a half years in hell left"

Howie Carr is again making it clear he's not happy being at 'RKO. He just played the tape of the
DC Madam's mother, calling 911 to report that she found her daughter had hung herself. Howie,
ever the one to incite controversy, made fun of it.

Just about every call he got after that were people very upset he had done that. One caller said
that Howie was going to hell. His response? "I'm already in hell. I've got 4 and a half years left
in hell."

His Entercom contract expires in Sept. of 2012...

(trying to get fired early so he can flee to Morrissey Blvd?)

Why would they want him now after doing something so classless (they might as well bring in O&A).

You know, no one forced "Howie the hack" to sign his contract, I am sure he and his agent negotiated the best deal they thought they could get at the time and I would hazard a guess that when hacky signed his contract he wanted the security the time span afforded him. Just because someone came along and offered him a better deal does not give him the right to reneg on his contract and it does not allow him to not live up to his responsibility to his employer. You know it's funny to me that someon who is so critical of so many people would not hold themselves to the same high standard they hold everyone else in the world to. What a HACK! Entercom should so what CBS did with O and A before take him off the air but continue to pay him so that he cannot jump ship to another station. They get to replace him with a professional and get a 4 1/2 non compete.

I tuned in just before he played the 9-1-1 tape. It was so disturbing, I switched the channel. I had no idea what I listened to until I read it here. He lacks humanity if he can make a joke about that.

Yesterday, when he signed on he made a joke about the gang hand signals. He said if a certain morning host (meaning Finneran) had a signal, it would mean "zero" as in ratings. He said his own signal would mean, "Get me out of here!" I guess Howie is an unhappy boy.

no way Entercom is handing him anywhere between 2 and 3 MILLION dollars to stay home, ain't gonna happen

O&A were a different situation. They did exactly what their employers asked them to do, and probably with CBS knowing in advance what was going on. It was a promotion with Sam Adams beer so it's not like it was a surprise. In actuality it was the THIRD "Sex for Sam" contest.CBS would have lost any wrongful termination suit and they knew it. It was cheaper to pay them, save the legal fees, and keep the F.C.C. happy. The FCC was already happy to the tune of 357 grand they got from the stations that aired the Sex for Sam stunt.

he'll never see those bonuses for the rest of his career at entercom. he's actually making quite a bit less money under the new contract. he thought he had a better oppotrunity to get more cash if he was out of the wrko nest and reach a wider audience on fm, but his wrko schtick is a farce and it can only work with nitwits who still listen to wrko. he could never hack it on fm. even fm guys like matt siegel would make him look stupid.

................If making that kind of coin is "burning in hell", Then I wouldn`t mind being crispy.

He probably wouldn't hit the performance incentives at WTKK either (suppose the deal had gone through;
when Imus returned they could have had Howie, Imus delayed, E&B, Severin, and Graham at 7 pm etc.)
but he doesn't like working with Jason/Julie/Finneran, etc. Or so he seems to let on!

I think he could have done fairly well there but given the competition, etc., the "7 million dollar man"
would actually make considerably less..

Howie is lucky the axe hasn't fallen on him at the Herald (though it could be that he's considered a valued
employee--meanwhile others at both papers got "buyouts") and he has radio as well (plus the book),
but he def. likes slamming Entercom whenever he can.
His orig deal indeed provided for security and just when the new deal (WTKK) came about, he tried
to get his lawyers to prove that he didn't have to re-sign with E-com...

>>he thought he had a better oppotrunity to get more cash if he was out of the wrko nest and reach a wider audience on fm

I could believe the second part of that at least (reach wider aud. on FM)

I think Howie's shtick does work at 'RKO but the other hosts, who are getting REALLY low numbers,
well that's another story.

>>Why would they want him now after doing something so classless

Maybe they figure he can get some ratings--from people who may tune in to hear "what he'll do
next". And the papers will call him a shock jock!

Of course, as with Imus, Stern, etc. the stations sign someone who "pushes the envelope" and
incites controversy--and then are shocked when they do just that!

btw people have noticed Howie's taking more time off than usual. I think Entercom had to match WTKK's
offer to keep him and that prob included more time off (so even if he doesn't match the perf. incentives
he gets more time off). "I plan to take every 'teacher's holiday' I can", he said...

You know youre absolutely right ZRXOA I really enjoyed your thoughtful analysis of the o and a situation vs hackie.

Imagine if a state employee signed a contract with say Mass Highway and then that person wanted out because the Mass Pike offered him or her a better offer, and went to court to try to get out of the mass highway contract? Howie would be all over that person, calling him or her a "Hack" and making a huge stink about it. What happens when he finds out that a state employee is not living up to thier obligation to thier employer? I guess that the rules are different for Mr. Car it is allright to go after everyone else in the world but when it comes to him the same rules don't apply and it is allright to act like a spoiled rotten child.
