Howie on WRKO Mar 16

Carr's return to WRKO is certainly a shame, and it must be an embarrassment to 'RKO to realize that their biggest ratings draw is a homophobic bigot who can barely disguise his racism (what with the horns playing 'La Cucaracha' to imply that someone is Latino, etc).

Howie is just reflecting his own kind and his audience. Hibernians and WASPS forever!!!! -;(

I guess you can keep listening to Air America, then.

...just as it was an embarrassment for all those years past that HC had been on WRKO, right?

You act as if this is something new. Ever since Joe Pyne and Morton Downey, Jr. starting calling callers with whom they disagreed vile names, talk radio has been like this...and that goes back almost 50 years. Let's not pretend that HC single-handedly invented this brand of talk radio.

When it comes to making money in this business there is no embarrassment.

Howie's not physically returning to WRKO. They're just picking up his show from the syndicator. The old toll-free number was the one he had when he originated his program at WRKO, and he probably won't get that back.

Yeah, you're probably right in that he'll have to keep using that god-awful new number, though with Internet telephony, anything is possible. E.g., Barry Armstrong does his show from the same Needham facility as does Howie, yet the text number for his "Financial Exchange" is 680-680, which is definitely 'RKO's.

First post of this thread I wrote
>>reunited and it feels so good

Headline of Inside Track article about it would later read "reunited and it feels so...profitable". Either Gayle Fee and I just co-incidentally had the same old song lyric
in mind or she reads this messageboard (prob the latter; Howie reads it too I bet)

I wonder what will happen to mike siegel. I like him a lot :(

If Entercom wanted to spend the money...they could bump Levin to 10.
Oh btw I just saw the following tweet from
Jim Callahan
(Severin is on the Blaze 2-5pm I think):

Hi Jay Would you call my GM at WMEX 1510 Boston Bryan J Berner (number) or [email protected]. http://t.co/exaC43zSNb

96.9 WTKK had a powerful signal and it was on FM, no less; talk there was deep sixed.

1200 AM had CC behind them, though they were signal-challenged (50,000 watts notwithstanding); talk there was deep sixed.

1510 WMEX is losing Howie Carr; talk there will likely be deep sixed. (Read, "Jay S., don't bother calling their GM.")

Yeah but 1510AM doesn't need the ratings/revenue nut that 1200AM or 96.9 had hanging over them.

1510AM WMEX WILL be talk in some form or another for the foreseeable future. (what else can they do?)

As Nathan Obral has pointed out whoever comes up with a sizeable amount of money to lease 1510 can get their programming on...including
--Vanguard/Wallis
--Jeff Santos--prog talk
--the Chinese govt. (oh wait, they have 1090)
--religious folks
--Doubt it but iHeart could buy time to put on FoxSports or ESPN to put on ESPNDeportes

Getting Howie when he became available was huge...losing him could really hurt Wallis unless they somehow have an unlimited amount of money. What replaces it?
...Brother Stair...? who knows

Obral on radioinsight:
>>For a brokered outfit like 1510 is, ratings don’t matter… just the money that is paid to Blackstrap so that they can pay the electric company to power the transmitter site.

There were many unhappy campers in the Tri-State listening area when NY's 1560 WQEW dropped the Great American Songbook (GAS) for Radio Disney. Since, as you say, 1510 doesn't need/have "the ratings/revenue nut ... hanging over them", then why not the GAS? I can't believe there's no audience for that kind of music even in stodgy ole Beantown.
