Howie passed out live during his show yesterday

71 yrs old. Similar incident some years ago as he was on some medication and during the show he let out a weird belch, muttered "Oh God" and soon listeners were fed a rerun of a previous show..was feeling ill, or side effect of meds.
May have caught a virus from grandson. A tweet had what was supposedly his vaxx card, with doses in Jan and Feb of '21. If so, vaccines won't prevent you from getting covid but can lessen severity. Not sure if covid virus.
Don't know what procedure was.

In his early 70s, maybe time to retire and enjoy life. Doubt that's in Kathy's plans though.
Gotta squeeze the lemon for all the juice?

Or just doesn't want to deal with him when he's home full time?

Howie on now calling in to substitute host
Toby Leary. He said: Feeling better
Dehydrated, fainted, stomach bug
Got out of hospital at 9 pm
Will be on tomorrow for a couple hours.

People were texting him yesterday saying
he looked like crap, why are you on...

He used to talk about looking forward to his retirement back when he was an Entercom employee. Since he's gotten free of Entercom I've heard him say numerous times that he likes what he's doing and doesn't plan to retire.

Having not produced a radio show, I wouldn't know, but how much "show prep" does Howie really have? Since from day to day he mainly discusses current events and reminisces about days gone by, I would guess "not much" ?

I could see him scaling back from 4 hours to 3 hours though. Most other shows I listen to are 3 hours.

Haven't listened to Howie for over a year and haven't listened to "GOONer" for 100 years, but, I'm guessing since Rush passed, they are getting their show prep from Beck/Clay&Buck/Hannity/JoePags. Wouldn't surprise me if GOONer and Howie have their staff monitor those shows (yes even Hannity who is on at the same time as Howie.) GOONer used to steal stuff from Rush and claim it as his own. He'd steal predictions, word for word and when they came true, he'd claim, "I told you, I told you", at least when Howie stole from Rush he'd say "Rush said earlier". I wonder if GOONer steals from Polito too.

Scaling back to 3 hours as in, he'd take a slide after 3 hr and have someone else do last hr--he wants to make money and the 6p hr, perhaps a strictly local focus, can still generate some bucks

I do not know enough about market dynamics when it comes to radio. I can see where the 6pm hour still has some people in the daily commute. Does it drop off at 7?

I always assumed the 3-hour window (6-9, 9-12, 12-3, 3-6) was a sort of industry standard geared around how most people typically live. e.g. 6-9 the morning commute, 9-12 in office, 12-3 afternoon in-office, 3-6 pm commute.

Sounds like the Howie Carr Radio Network needs another 3-hour host from 6-9 :)

Audience drops off gradually as the evening progresses. 7 PM may be as good as 3 PM in some markets, but then it glides downwards as it gets closer to midnight. Remember, small retail workers, delivery people, etc., do get off till 6 PM or 7 PM.

Many larger retail workers are on till 9 PM or later. Factory shift workers may be 6 to 2, 2 to 10 and 10 to 6, with strange drive times. Same for restaurant workers, who will be getting off at 10 PM, 11 PM, Midnight and even 1 AM; those that serve breakfast start work at 5 AM or before.

So there are lots of early people and many who work late. "Nine to Five" is a good song, but the majority of workers don't have that schedule. Think of teachers, trash collectors, police, utility crews, bus drivers, and many other jobs that don't follow that traditional schedule.

But ratings are, and have been for over 60 years, based on 6-10, 10-3, 3 to 7 and 7-Midnight. But in many markets, we have work schedules that don't match that.

Having full ownership of his show and all intellectual property has to play a role.

I doubt Howie or his staff monitor Hannity. He used to cite Rush and Levin, and his staff sometimes cite Daily Wire shows, but otherwise I think most of the show prep comes from various sites on the internet (as evidenced by the print outs he reads; is he still using a dot matrix printer?).
