How's Joe doing?

I have been so busy lately that I literally haven't had a chance to listen to the radio.
But... I was wondering how Joe Thomas did on his first day at 102.3.
Any reviews? Was Rob there? Any comments on the station in general?

Has a new era of sports broadcasting begun in NEPA? :D

i did tune in for a while before joe came on....the sports hub on nbc sports net. sounded the same as all the other sports stations, and they ran psa spots for must of the show. . i had joe on for a little while, he called his control room the macarthy tire control center, and he had a guest on for a while, but again, it all sounds the same. in the last spring book, the mountain had a 2.3.. 12 + rating...why would you change formats?all the others didnt do anything in numbers. why do the same format that 3,4, or more stations are doing in this market? again, i hope joe does well, but again how much can the pie be sliced?

I listened to the show. It was done just like the old Saturday show. Rob Neyhard was in "helping out" for the first few days as Joe said. No talk as far as Rob being the permament co-host. A couple guests, some callers with their "best wishes" and banter back and forth.

yep, it sounded like the old saturday show, and as i said in an earlier post that didnt work.. same 3 or 4 callers like diane from moosic talking about the cowboys. who ever is programming the station is not a radio person, or is from out of state...sport talk shows just dont do it in this market...

Typical. Begging for calls. Keeping the few callers they had on for a very long time just to fill. I'd really like to see the research that shows this will work.

i dont get it either..wejl am in the last book had a 1.0....all the others didnt even show, and to beg for calls for 3 hrs. its insane. ..and sports interviews are just death to programming. does wilk still have the sport show on saturdays at 10am..i never tuned that show in...hows that one doing ?

Way too many sports stations in the area. The Mountain was one of the best stations in NEPa. There goes the 102.3 pre set. I think we have reached the saturation point with sports radio. Two are enough for any market.

Yeah, this area is situated with too much talk and sports all over the FM dial.

Three sports talk stations in our area is ENOUGH!!! Not only that, we have TWO talk stations on the FM dial.

And God knows, perhaps WARM 590 could flip it to CBS Sports Radio pretty soon......that will make it FOUR.

since know one answered my question about the sport show on wilk saturday morning, i tuned in, and rush was on..so i guess they dumped that sport show. good luck to joe..

tuned in today from 1pm to 230, and no calls..joe and a gal who i dont know, kind of sounded like kathy D.were on talking for 20 minutes about dating, and meeting people at bars..and drinking.. i know in some way thats a sport, but come on guys let get serious..some advise,, dont talk personal stuff, and when you give out the phone number for callers.. do it slow..your new, the numbers are new, and you have to teach any fans you do have to mark them down so they can call. hope it picks up.

I love the comments from you and cowboy72.

You two should start your own board and maybe call it 'Bitter Malcontents Who Mask the Fact That They Can't Bear to Admit That The Times Long Ago Passed Them By Criticizing Things They Know Little or Nothing About'.

...'k?

Once again, you disagree with the message, so you attack the messenger. If you'd like to see bitter, perhaps you should look in the mirror. No one disputes Joe is a nice guy and a competent broadcaster. The show is a tough listen. It drags. It sounds like he's just filling time because there's no listener involvement.

Look, Joe is a nice guy and a hard worker. No one disputes that. Unfortunately, his show gets buried outside of drive time. He struggles to generate calls and listener involvement. I have yet to see outside promotion. He hangs on to interviews way too long. There's interminable banter with a co host and it's the same interviews you can hear anywhere else. Sorry. There isn't much special here. There's no reason to punch his button on the car radio. Bland. I don't mind those who disagree. After all, America is a democracy and message boards are designed for debate. I wish Joe and his show the best. Local and live is always better. So far, though, the show is off to a very rough start.

I've been listening a lot lately. Joe's struggling. No calls. Reading stuff off the internet. No chemistry with the second person in the studio. He deserves better.
