How's Smooth Jazz doing in Orlando?

Just curious as to how Mr Lavoie is doing as PD?

Anything new? Trends? Books? People?

;D I Hate any kind of JAZZ, but I am just curious why ya call it "Smooth JAZZ? What's the difference? Is there a "Rough JAZZ? BIG APE!

Thirty year WLOQ veteran Joe Francis fired this past summer. Colonel Klink...errr I mean the General Manager Rick Weinkauf announces retirement a short while after that. I have noticed some businesses that used to have them (WLOQ) on all the time have switched them off. I've heard that two more Full-time shifts will be automated...I bet that will happen after 4th quarter. Lavoie has excellent VT/VO work...shame he doesn't gas the Bowel Movement in PM drive and take the slot himself.

Ohhh BIG APE.. They call it "Smooth Jazz" because it is a mixture of Traditional Jazz and R&B. While there is no "Rough Jazz"...there are other sub-genre's of jazz that fall under the Traditional Jazz umbrella. Some of those sub-genre's are Hard Bop, Cool Jazz, Swing, Free, and Third Stream to name a few. And NO, Cool Jazz and Smooth Jazz are not the same thing...many people ask that as well.

;D Where's Beach, "BE BOP..and "Betty Boop" fall into that! BIG APE!

They've changed from being one of the few locally programmed SJ stations left in the country to sounding like the stations that use Broadcast Architecture. Don't think they are a client but their PD was one at his previous station and they copy the playlists and have phased out a lot of instrumentals. in favor of BabyFace, Toni Braxton, lots of 70s Doobie Bros/Steely Dan type stuff, lots of lite A/C early 80s songs and the usual overdose of of old Motown. zzzzzzzzzzzzz. Numbers showed a slight dip since this change but heritage stations tend to maintain long time listeners unless they flip formats entirely so until they go totally Lite A/C who knows?

Hey, and no, this isn't Ken Marks......so it's not a self post like alot of guys on here. I worked with ken, SOLID guy, will be a major asset to the last mom and pop. He could run alot of clear channel stations a hell of alot better than they are being run now. Good Luck ken, from a long lost friend. You wre an OK softball player.

Whoopie!! Who's Ken Marks?

Ken's been at WLOQ for the past 12 years in sales and eventually Sales manager/Director of Sales and now VP/GM. Rock solid person...knows his stuff. I worked with him the past. I am sure those in the building are breathing a sigh of relief, for it is always better to deal with the Devil you know compared the one you don't ;)
